19/1111 Overnale: Preparations to Launch

So, things seem to have calmed down. The new passenger, if the Captain keeps her aboard has been checked out by Issac and given clothing by Paris. Paris has talked to Dr. Solaski who strongly suggests using the ship to make the delivery rather than renting an air/raft at Parlek Port...due to weather concerns. Merrin has checked and double checked everything and the ship is ready to fly. Des has checked the "device" and it doesn't seem to have any affect on flying the ship (I think Derek has more investigation to do on it) other than drawing a small bit of power while the ship's maneuver drive is running. Bart has looked around the ship and hasn't found any more security breaches, and is thinking about how to prevent any in the future I'm sure.
The ship can fly directly to Parlek Port drop off Brown's cargo (and the girl) and then fly to the island, or take a detour and fly to Diplo island for the delivery and then then on to Parlek Port...Captain's option. And I'm ready to hear which option Sasha decides on.

"Paris, we're going to drop off Dr. Solaski's shipment first, then go to Parlek. My reasoning is that I want to be someplace where I can wine and dine you tonight, and I think a non-storm ravaged area is a better bet. And we might even be able to get a bonus on some construction equipment that we just happen to have *in* a storm ravaged area..."

"Doctor," she said, moving into the Medlab and nodding at their guest. "I have clothing--would you excuse us for just a moment as she changes?"

She was disguised as one of the workers, the other workers were in on everything, and while everyone was keeping an eye on "accident and injured worker" she slipped behind the crates and used a screwdriver to loosen the panel over the ductwork. Once inside the duct system she looked for a place to get out. She picked what she thought was an empty stateroom, coming out in the fresher. She was surprised to find Lord Percy asleep in the next room, and when he awoke while she was trying to sneak out of the room she had to explain her presence and convince him to help her.

Merinn checks all the systems and fuel. The ship has enough for the maneuver drive to run from another two weeks, so there is no problem with fuel if they aren't going to be jumping out...and that is not the plan. For this ship, an in-atmosphere flight over to Diplo Island and then to Parlek Port would be the equivalent of a trip by car to the corner market followed by a drive over to the mall for a bit of shopping. Merinn will need power for the maneuver drive, the sensors, flight control, the gravity modules if they want to maintain inertial compensation for the acceleration (that would be normal).
Remembering that Des is still in the duct work "examining" that box she found, Merinn pauses before bringing any of the off-line systems online...

Des starts to hook this device up so she can
remote monitor all of it's input and output, or
as much of this as she can without actually
cutting any of the lines or disturbing it anymore
than she absolutely has to.

Des works fast and gets her job finished in four. That gives her six to get out of the duct works before the ship starts lifting.
Up on the bridge, Krikor has cleared things with Traffic Control and is preparing the ship for lift. A short in-atmosphere flight with the grav units this ship has should be no problem at all...easy as driving down to the corner store.
Krikor has the planetary weather reports scrolling in a window on the console as he works. In another, he has a satellite view of Diplo Island and the ocean around it. The huge hurricane that cut Diplo Island off from communications has moved past it now and the projected storm track takes it out to sea away from Diplo. The weather on the flight to the island should be mostly clear with occasional bands of rain and wind as the last squal lines rotate around from the large storm system.
As an aside, Krikor is a bit surprised at the size of Diplo Island. It must be 50 by 30 kilometers and a pair of mountain peaks rise far above the island. It looks like a small glacier nestles between the two peaks and he can see a river falling from the glacier down to the sea. There is no sign of human habitation on the satellite picture.
Doctor Solaski has given you the coordinates of the small research center. The grid on the satellite map shows that the research center is located on the river about 1 kilometer in from the coast.
OOC: Ready to lift when you are. :)

Which she does quickly letting the captian know she's clear
of the ducts before resealing all the vents that have had their
covers removed.

Then she starts to watch the information on her screens to
see just what the box does when the ship powers up.

"Sharda, lay in teh course and keep trying to raise Diplo control... I've got the con."

On the windward or leeward side of the island? Storm front or on the protected side?
"Right," he replies when Sharda gives him the clear to go. "Thank you for your support, Control. Will see you on the flip side. Akus Moby out." He flicks off the comms, switching to internal. "Engines, we are go. Paris, lifting in 3, in 2, in 1, lifting."

"Affirmative, Captain," Paris said, herding her two charges, the Noble and the Stowaway, up into the Pax lounge. Settling them into seats, she served an apertif to Percy and a juice to the young woman, then faded, as was her wont, into the background and still keeping a watchful eye upon both.

Percy, remarkably sober, is pleasantly chattering away at Meridith while sipping the cup of unspiked tea that Paris presented him with. Just as remarkable is the fact that he isn't complaining to her about the tea's lack of alcoholic content. He appears to be trying to distract the still obviously nervous young woman from her worries.
Meridith is clearly still nervous, worried, jumpy as that cat Paris' previous ship had who would jump at its own shadow. She is holding her cup of tea, but isn't drinking it, simply twisting it around and around in her hands as she half listens to Percy. Once the ship is airborne she begins to relax and as Krikor announces that it is out of Lorton jursidiction over the open sea she relaxes even more.
At this point she turns to Paris and says a quiet, "Thank you. Every Meadows that ever comes after this thanks you."

Paris gave a small smile and nod, but says nothing, her own thoughts on the matter hidden behind the mask of the professional steward.
