Celandra is a game in which the players take the roles of societies, rather than playing individual characters. The players will invent a society with its culture and heritage, and will guide its development and interaction with the world. Emphasis will be be placed on developing a detailed history of Celandra, along with myths and legends.

Hey all,

I'm really pleased with all the NPS societies, especially since I forgot
to add summaries for the three I posted yesterday.

First, players
Tribes, welcome aboard. I need to do another going over, but I think
your ready. You need to think about how spread out your people are, how
well they maintain their communications, and what they'll accept as a
habitable planet -- but I expect your already doing that.

Remanant, wonderful funny story. How does a secret system work? What
do they do with univited visitors (cometters, pirates, ships passing
through)? Is it long established or did they put it here because of all
the local action?

I've got a few comments on the NPS
Nooians and Parith are in. The Parith need names for their two other
systems. Jason?
The Mechlaus and Seven Dynasties are in, but I'm torn about their size
and might wind up kneecaping them.
The Regressionists, likewise. Keaton, you brought this to my attention
originally, but you need to consider how few habitable planets there
are. Low technology, while intresting, tends not to survive in an
environment where you don't if you don't take proper care of your
equipment. Alternately, there could be marginally related Regressionist
movements on several habitable planets.
T-14 I'm very torn about. Great Mambo is a wonderful book even if the
chicken only gets half a page and I love idea of nanotechnology. But
the potential power is immense though you limited it nicely. I've got
to think.
Knights are great. I'm going to try and tweak them to include some run
ins with and relationship to the pirates of the late Hegemony.

Game start,
I've been considering how to manage this. I'd like to hold active play
until we have a crude map and I've a refrence card with peoples
determinants. And we haven't even set the starting year. However I did
promise and we have plenty of information built up already. What I
propose I'm sure no-one will like: TURN 0. This idea serves two
purposes; it stalls while we finish wiring the game up and it shows how
your societies aren't starting from nothing on HE ???. Essentially, I'd
like everyone who wishes to write up two internal actions and make up a
resolution. These represent things your society has been working on the
last few years: projects underway, reforms debated, changes rejected,
crises starting. You can choose any degree of sucess, though I recomend
you limit it to something framing future action, not a real
accomplishment, say at Good (+1). Failure on the other hand knows no
bounds and a serious failure sets up all sorts of intresting story
ideas. External actions are allowed as long you negotiate effects with
the other player or have already mentioned the event; GTC taking over
Lanothar or the Tribes entering Mar'san space would be examples. Again
this is an optional activity to do short term what the time line did
long term, establish who is doing what. Anyone really object to this?

Keaton, I'm one of those overly familiar Americans and feel a little
uncomfortable always calling you by your last name. May I use your
first name? If so, what is it?

As my first abuse of power, I declare Freefall to be one of the official
space oriented comics of Humanity. It's funny, vaguely topical and at
http://www.purrsia.com/freefall/default.htm

Anyone know about or have good sources on terraforming?

Rylen (who seems to go on and on)

drat, no Vebulen, Cometters, pirates, or general systems tonight.

Well, I've been mostly waiting to see the map before deciding these aspects.
Considering there's about 50 tribes. I was thinking of having them spread
across between 15 to 30 systems depending on how far apart will be those
system. Many will probably be in between those systems throught the year. As
for communications, they have a web system. The most extreme (in terms of
distance) can't directly talk to each other. The messages passes through
other tribes through the network to reach that far off tribe. This will
certainly lead to political maneuverings within the tribe as certain
messages get lost, get used as blackmail and possibly tribal maneuvers
within space will be politically based.
I can see a information black market existing now or in the future where
"lost" messages or even copied messages are sold at various high prices.
As for a suitable planet. That will be decided within the game. It is
still being debated among the tribes. Some tribes want an isolated world,
others want a planet nearby major powers to be both protect and a center of
trade. Others tribes (a minority but still quite vocal) don't want a planet
right now but want to either take revenge on those who attacked the Hegemony
or raid the remaining Hegemony worlds in vagence for keeping them as what
certain members view as slavery. Once we get determinants going, I'll have
several key elements, groups to discuss the those issues of internal
politics and philosophy. I know that biologically, due to their cold
bloodness the Tribesmen will need a warm planet or live in the warm areas of
the world. Below a certain temperature, they go in cryosleep. They can live
on temperate areas but when winter arrives, the area becomes inactive as eve
ryone is asleep.
I'll detail stuff later but opinions can be given to me. I had the ideas
in the back of my head but only the information black market and the polical
geographic maneuvers are new but seem to make sense.

ALP,
Eric

> Tribes

Hmm, I don't know If I commented on this before, but I
suppose the idea is one that could be done...

All these things that the Heg. was "responsible" for... its
making me change the view of my own society...

Perhaps I should take some time to write up a fuller
description of how the nexites are currently etc so that I am not
blamed for everything

> Remanant

Very nice... What is it with the various priests and their
secret societies ? (grin)

> How does a secret system work?

	I like that "secret system"
I am tempted to make "Nexus" a closed (secret) system It
could be that people know it exists, but no Nexite has been willing
to give out its location. (Not all Nexites would even know it's
location perhaps)

Well, How many systems do we have to play with? I am
picturing something in the 100's, so in that way, they do not
represent anything that bad...

Umm... I am not 100% sure I like the idea of the nanotech.
To have tech that advanced hmm... It has lots of repercussions.

	14875 HE

I love the idea of a turn 0.

I say start the game by Wednesday 8th - (have turn 0 in by then)

First of all, they have colonies and settlements in crappy systems. Also,
they have taken over three old hegenomy systems or one if your prefer, but
still having a bit of a problem "assimilating" the populace those systems to
their culture. Not the borg way, but similar. Also, they are keeping a low
profile, so they won't go around beating societies up. They'll simply
destroy any uninvited ships entering their systems or being near them. Also,
needs some NPS societies to be big, especially for newbie players later on
to possibly pick instead of creating their own society. -LordLMP
