People frequently seem to forget the mailing lists are part of an entire
roleplaying site... I haven't quite figured out how to make that more
public, short of throwing an ad into every list now and again.
Anyway, if you visit the Phoenyx' main page at http://www.phoenyx.net, you
can find instructions on joining any Phoenyx group, including The Main.
It'll also give a pointer to the The Main's web page (whose URL I've
forgotten), which also has a navbar that will let you join.

The way I got on is to use this address - themain-on@phoenyx.net - send a
blank message to that from Hotmail or wherever and you should get on the
[AtM] list. The address to actally post list messages to (once you're
subscribed) is themain@phoenyx.net
But you've probably tried that already - in which case I'm just being
annoying, and you'll have to badger someone at Phoenyx (hi people!) to
put you on manually or something.
You'll want to catch up with what's been going on - you can click Web Read
from the navbar on the webpage to get an archive of the list messages.
