Celandra is a game in which the players take the roles of societies, rather than playing individual characters. The players will invent a society with its culture and heritage, and will guide its development and interaction with the world. Emphasis will be be placed on developing a detailed history of Celandra, along with myths and legends.

[Cel] [Ely] - Elyria - Starting Date

Greetings all,

I have not heard from some of you who owe me actions. In the
interest of finally getting this started I am setting a deadline.
Deadline for time-line actions is Dec. 27th, one week from today. I
should post everything before the end of the year and we can start-off
2001, fresh and clean. Anyone, who does not give me their actions or
the revisions I have asked for will lose the right to update the country
for the years we have skipped.
I thank everyone for their long patience. Let's get the show on the
road.

Joel

Items Missing:

Louis P. society selection
Nazclan timeline
Silverhand timeline
Reyclean revised timeline
Aunderli revised timeline
Jumalla revised timeline
City of Nargash revised timeline

If I owe anyone results or anything else, please let me know.

[Cel] [Ely] - Elyria Starts - First Turn 2842 will conclude Jan. 21

Hi all,

We are officially starting. Hurray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am still waiting to hear from some of you.

Items Missing:

Louis P. society selection
Nazclan timeline
Silverhand timeline
Reyclean rewrite of revised timeline
Jumalla rewrite of revised timeline
City of Nargash revised timeline

If I owe anyone results or anything else, please let me know.

If I do not hear from Louis P., Nazclan or Silverhand by 1/7/01 their
societies will revert to Non-Player Societies. If they need a little
more time I will grant it, I would rather have the players then not.
With this much time to start up most of you probably have some idea of
your moves for next year, so we can be flexible here.

Game Notes:
1) The game is officially starting 1/1/01.
2) In the next several days, hopefully before the end of this year, I
will publish all the results I have. Any adjustments that have to be
made will be made in game time. Most of you have seen your results, so
updates should not create any major conflicts I believe. And the only
major action has been the Fae's takeover of Asentir which everyone
should be aware of at this point.
3) Anyone who stills owes me stuff will have to the 1/7/01 to get it
in, otherwise they will lose the timeline updates. This to allow for
the any holidays anyone has been on. Hurmel I believe is out of access
until the 8th, and if necessary I will give him some extra time. Anyone
else on vacation or out of touch will get the same consideration. After
this I will be less lenient.
4) If you ask for extensions, I will be pretty liberal about allowing
them but if you don't ask, you will lose that year's actions, and I will
write for your society. The rules about GM writing for missing turns,
is I can continue actions that have been started but I can not generate
new actions.
5) If I do not hear from you for 3 years (or you miss submitting
actions for 3 out of 5 yrs.), your society will revert to Non-Player
status.
6) First turn 2842 will conclude Jan. 21, 2001 and turns should run
at 3 weeks intervals. Again, if you need extensions, I will be fairly
liberal about giving them.
7) In the interest of getting turns in on a timely basis. I will
award an extra action to those players who are consistently early (wk
1). If you are consistently late (wk 3), you risk losing an action.
This is a two-fold experiment. First to try and encourage
timeliness and two, while no one is supposed to use other players'
actions to dictate others, it sometimes happen. Sending in moves early
should help limit this problem. If you want another rationale, sending
late moves is like performing all your actions at the end of the year,
therefore limiting how many actions you perform.
I will review everyone's timeliness every 3-5 years or so. This is
an experiment so I will be flexible w/ awarding extra actions. I am not
guaranteeing this award will be handed out every 3-5 years but it will
happen on occasion to those who are highly consistent one way or the
other. If I am consistently late, I will consider granting you all
extra actions or some other bonus to compensate. There should be
incentives on both sides. :-)
Any other questions or comments, please let me know. Let's get the
show on the road.

[Cel] [Ely] - Elyria Starts - First Turn 2842 will conclude Jan. 21

Hi again,

    More Notes:
I have attached the events for the non-player societies for the
timeline gap (2833-41) & for the events for the year 2842.

Someone asked an excellent question - How do I determine how many
plusses or minus' I should give these actions?
I can't seem to tell.

As a rule, you can put in as many pluses/minuses as you want but I
will only use what I feel are the most important 2-3 pluses or minuses.
Most actions will probably not have more then a -3/+3, although some
actions could go higher.
The best thing I can think of is just to keep reading past actions
by other players in both Elyria & in Qaiyoure and to read past actions
on the board at Phoenyx.net.
I hope that helps, if not, do not worry to much. Since we have a
lot of new players, I will try and assist as much as possible in the
beginning and offer advice as needed. I am willing to review moves
before publication and talk them over w/ any player if necessary.

To quote from the Fudgified Rules-
Number of actions
The basic number of actions per society is 4. However, this can be
varied:

1.extra: -1 to the extra action
2.extras: -1 to both extras, and a -1 to one additional
3.extras: -1 to all extras, and -1 to two additionals
   4.extras: all at -1

You can try to remove the action penalty (on a per action basis) by
stating that you go
cautiously or try something small (relavetive to society scope, of
course). The effects won't
be that great in the case, though. You can also submit fewer actions,
ie. expend extra effort
to some actions:

1.less: +1 on one action (also called a "double" action)
2.less: +1 on two actions (triple)
3.less: +2 on one action (quadrable)

 Result Success value Effects
(+-1,2 results are typically temporary modifiers to determinants lasting
for a year or two, +-3 or above can result in permanent modifiers to
determinants)
  ---------------------------------------------------------------
  > +7 Mythic success cool...
+6,+5 Extraordinary success special/permanent effects possible
+4,+3 Superior success +2 increase possible
+2,+1 Complete success +1 to one or two determinants
0 Marginal result none, or balanced modifiers
-1,-2 Complete failure -1 to one or two determinants
-3,-4 Severe failure -2 increase possible
-5,-6 Miserable failure special/permanent effects possible
  < -7 Catastrophic failure cool...
