Real Life has finally given me some free time to try & finish up this year. I am hoping to send you all responses to your moves as quickly before I go away. I am going away for a week from Friday, 4/21 - Saturday, 4/27. If you can, please send your responses as soon as you can. A reminder, most actions are considered at least hard (-1), some of
these I gave the value of very hard (-2). Please feel free to give your
own opinion.

Reyclean 2844
Action 1: Strategic internal action 5/6: Skill enhancement
Main determinants: Arts/Sophistication (Good)
Difficulty: Very Hard (-2)
Plus/minus:
+ Well established smithies with lots of work
+ Skillful teachers
- Lack of resources because of Celmyr crisis
+1-2+1+1-1 (0++-)=+1 The smithies focus on their art and ignore the
crisis going on around them to better their art.
Continue
Action 2. Strategic action 1/??: Launch 2nd expedition
Main determinants: Resources (Good)
Difficulty: Normal
Plus/minus:
+ Preparations very well done (+2 last year)
+ Eager crews
+ Knowledge about southern waters & the place for the new colony is
known
- What if the Tsunami is a bad omen...
- Southern waters are always dangerous
+1+1+1-1-1 (-000) =0 No Progress. Walter I’ll leave the decision how
to play this to you. 2 possibilities come to mind. One is information
comes back that the site has been altered by the tsunami. The other is
the fanatics intefer.
Because preparations went smoothly the small fleet will be launched this
year. This time the expedition is larger than the first one. There are
enough people, resources and soldiers (colony has to have a defense too)
to found a colony on southern shore of Elyria. Obviously also the
Companion of Wizards have their representatives with expedition. This
expedition will open a new era in Reycelan history. Finally the true
heirs of ancient Avaerans are going to follow their ancestors footsteps.
The colony on the southern shore is going to be great for traders and
explorers alike. Luckily the great wave which passed over Reycelan
didn't destroy the fleet equipped in Cethbar harbor. However some see
this event as a warning sign.
3. Tactical internal action: Check & repair tsunami damages
Main determinants: Authority (Great) (+2)
Exploitation (Good) (+1)
Difficulty: very hard (-2)
Plus/minus:
+ Experience in repairing damages
- New catastrophe could cause unrest like on Celmyr
- Fixing damages is little harder because it is spread widely
+2+1-2+1-1-1 (00-0)=-1 Devastation was greater then thought, repairs
are not enough, food shortages & lack of shelter persist. (Fanatics
could show up if wanted)
Tsunami came suddenly from south and devastated the southern coast of
Pyreth. The damages were not so big as on Celmyr when the volcano
erupted because the island is sparsely populated and major part lives in
northern and central parts. Still fishing communities and other small
villages were more or less destroyed.
King sends experienced repair crews to Pyreth and orders them to restore
the most important villages there. They should also provide suffering
people shelter and help them best possible way. In order to prevent
fanatics to gain momentum also on Pyreth Awenor also sends half of
Pyreth's legion to keep order. If any agitation is seen those agitators
should be captured and exiled back to Celmyr.
Action 4. Tactical external action: Act against fanatics
Main determinants: Power (Great)+2
Military force (fair) +0
Difficulty: Very Hard (-2)
Plus/minus:
+ People see that their king cares about them
+ When legion is not actively attacking, people think that aggressors
are the fanatics
- Some may see these actions very hostile and unnecessary
- Fanatics may gain more support
+2-2+1+1-1-1 (0-+0)= +0 The king’s actions gain some support but the
fanatics also have their strong followers.
Awenor already has enough information about the fanatic organization.
That's why he orders the legion stationed on Celmyr to march out from
their barracks. Their orders are strictly to defend people against
fanatic attacks and they cannot attack first. It is better not to act
first because that way all the blame falls down to fanatics. Legion
should also make sure that all criminal actions are punished according
to law and implement them if necessary.
By acting this way Awenor tries to show that fanatics are nothing else
than a bunch of people whose only goal is to cause unrest and suffering.
Awenor also issues an order which states that the workday for all miners
should be around 8 to 10 hours. This way he tries to gain also their
support because they were started the troubles in the first place.
Key element action: Fanatics advance
Difficulty: Hard (-1)
Plus/minus:
+ Support is strong enough to succeed
- Unorganized group
- Legion has an order to act
-1+1-1-1 (+-00) = -1 Fanatics fail to set the barracks on fire. The
king’s measured reaction and their failure loses them some support among
those thinking about coming over.
Fanatic leadership orders their supporters to storm legion barracks and
set them on fire. This should be very encouraging to their followers who
see that the king is no match for righteous people. They decide not to
act on Pyreth because there is so few people and the leadership is sure
king has already made sure that this kind of events won't happen again.
They also make a statement which states that all unbelievers are not
worthy and should be converted or killed. This'll cause terror and even
more people to change sides plus it also strengthens their true
supporters belief for fanatic cause.

Well, my timetable was too optimistic.
I know tonight should be a very late night at work. I will
definitely get some stuff out the door before I leave early Saturday
morning. I do appreciate everyone's patience.
Aerephal, Taseleth & Jumalla are all finals I believe & can be sent out
tonight & tomorrow. The rest I think are reasonably straightforward w/
the possible exception of the QofN & the Eleven Cities. If there are
any major problems w/ results I will deal w/ them upon my return
otherwise, I think most of you will be able to go straight into 2845.
Dom I could probably use to hear from you, give me some feedback on
comments & do you need any more info before implementing changes.
Anybody have any questions (related to the game :-) please email me
before I leave.
Joel
PS. - When I get back, it is also time to strongly consider a new
computer & stop having to contend w/ the girlfriend for time to work on
this stuff. I am sure some of you are familiar w/ this phenomenon. :-)

Lol. I understand completely (substitute WIFE for Girlfriend). Qai is behind as well. Spring break, the beginning of decent weather, the Easter holiday--real life does tend to stack up on us. M. Okay if we`re going for broke try this Wife, Child(3 yrs), Exam in May, newly moved to new home, most of Germanies "bank holidays" occour in the first four months of the year(no this doesn`t mean free time, see first two entries plus the third). but seriously we poor gamers shall survive this dire thirst for gaming experience. Well, you gentlemen may just beat me out, unfortunately, I worked
until midnight last night & tonight & I have to leave my apartment at 4
AM this morning. I do not know how much is getting done tonight.
I will be returning on Saturday, 4/27 & will hopefully, be able to
use Sunday to complete whatever may remain from 2844.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your extraordinary patience you have shown this GM. I
have been thinking a lot about the long delay we have had. And while I
have had lots of excuses w/ real life & work, a large part of the delay
I believe is my own fault. Since I am tired of apologizing for delays
that I could do more about, I intend to implement some systems to help
me keep the game running faster, or at least I hope on the original
schedule.
If my systems do not prove effective then we have a choice of an
irregular calendar, finding a new GM or shutting the game back down,
first I am hoping the reorganization will solve most of the problems.
It will take me another few days to get everything back on track, I
just wanted you all to know that you are in my thoughts.

For my part, I can only say that I understand all too well the delays, and would certainly be in favour of an irregular calender rather than the two other options. That is, if the reorg doesn't help. > It will take me another few days to get everything back on track, I > just wanted you all to know that you are in my thoughts. I don't mind the infrequent schedule. Trying to keep the two continents in sync is a pain as it is and, as far as I can tell, my co-GM may be on vacation. I'm good to continue whenever everyone else is. M. Thanks to Everyone for Your Comments & Support.
I like to consider myself reliable, but I
certainly can not say I have been in regards to the
deadlines in this game and so it bothers me. It also
does create some problems keeping the two games in
synch. We shall see how it goes, hopefully, the new
systems I use for myself will work, otherwise we will
muddle through.

Juuso & for those of you who know,
Would it be possible to use the old form, update it or to have
people who know how to submit their actions in HTML?
Most of my comments are not lengthy & w/ a little instruction on the
basics I can probably add my rolls & comments. I believe most e-mail
programs read HTML. This would certainly make it easier to update the
website.
Is this feasible? What are the inherent problems?
Some the previous years & submissions for those people who do not know
HTML would take longer to get updated.

I'm not entirely certain about this, but I think my website provider (the university) only allows mailing forms to specific addresses which are registered and which must be in the school domain. So while updating the form is possible, I think only I could be the receiver of those emails. Of course, I could forward them to you. Or I could rig up a procmail system which would do so automatically... so actually, the answer to your question is a tentative "yes". > Most of my comments are not lengthy & w/ a little instruction on the > basics I can probably add my rolls & comments. (I *really* should find some time to update the website... ) Well, I didn't actually intend to insert the actions in full to the website. Just a summary. So the HTML is really not a requirement. juuso ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send mail to celandra-off@phoenyx.net.
I will review the submission form & see if I have any suggestions for it. Or anyone else can also suggest useful changes. I believe I have some web space from my provider, I wonder if could I put the submission form there. I have little knowledge here & need to defer to those serious computer folks among you. My thoughts or assumptions about getting stuff in HTML (I am just hypothisizing from little knowledge) is that: 1- writing the instructions for sentence, paragraphs breaks & some of the other grammatical instructions should be reasonably easy to learn. 2- if it already comes in HTML, then hopefully, who ever is updating the web, would find it easier to cut & paste. 3-I am already taking people's emails & editing them into WORD documents. Eventually, if I learn HTML well enough &/or if it does not take too much extra time I convert the emails to HTML instead. Or if we can get the form up & running or maybe automate it further submissions and results can be simplified. We can either get a seperate discussion going among those knowledgeable or keep it here on the general chat-list. There is no immediate rush to resolve this, on the other hand if the summer allows some people extra time to lend a hand, hopefully those willing can get involved.
