Dear fellow gamers, although this mailing list is decidedly low-volume, the game itself seems to be going on, and I would like to join Qaiyore, if possible. I have some experience with interactive history, having participated in a similar game once before. This effort, simply called the World (http://www.geocities.com/habubak) is even more free-form than the rules used for Qaiyore, and sadly seems to be defunct. I have browsed through the Qaiyore website, studied its geography, its history and several of its cultures, and would be most comfortable leading Damaris through ages to come, although I would also accept another culture, if that were deemed more appropriate. I would, however, prefer a human culture with a low affinity towards magic. You are, of course, more than welcome to join. Qai is on its usual "official unofficial" summer break (even though we try, every year the game seems to slow to a halt over the summer while everyone is busy). I posted the overview of which societies were available in May (still on the archives for May). In short, Qai is still holding in the year 1433. Take any society you feel comfortable with from those available and feel free to submit for that year. I would like to start 1434 around the end of August when the list starts to get more active in the fall. With the recovery of Elyria, I expect even more activity in the near future. The Shanari and Burcancy have already submitted their turns for 1433. There are a few societies that either are not available to players or that I would prefer that new players not take: Mir (still played by Jason via the occasional letter, usually setting up long strategic actions, he was our primary GM for a long time and I think it's only fair to bend the rules a bit on this for him), Eerith, L'R, and Onagir (too powerful or confusing) and, although I would not forbid it, I would recommend that someone think long and hard about taking one of the war-shatter countries of the Raz. coast or the Wyr basin (just keep in mind, these societies are really hurting and will require quite a bit of rebuilding). Everything else I am considering wide open unless someone yells. So, everyone welcome Michael to the world and give him any help that he needs getting started. He's taking Damaris (an excellent choice with a lot of potential especially considering that Videssia is in chaos, the Onagir have retreated into the deep southern reaches, and the V'raal are still causing trouble). Other news: I recently got news from Jason (our previous GM now in exile). He's doing well, reminds me that the child born in 1433 is the Empresses SECOND, and is still looking forward to seeing how the world progresses. (He also reminded me that I haven't finished posting the rest of the chronicles detailing the transition from the Age of Sorcerers to the Age of Valor (1413-1429). Ah well, I'm slow.) The important thing is: he's healthy and happy. As most know, Eric Sortun is set to take over Elyria. We'll have to wait for his decision but, for my part, I have no problems with a player running a society on both continents since the two, for the most part, are completely separate. The last turns I saw for Elyria were for their year 2847 and I don't know if they were resolved. That puts them about a decade behind Qai so I have no idea if we're going to continue the attempt to sync up the years and timelines. For now, I'm assuming no and we'll worry about it later. A final note, after the "Age of Valor" plot-line (which passed through about the past four GMs), the world is wide open. I have no great global plots in mind and I'd prefer to let the players set their own agendas rather than engulf the world in some over-weaning plot. So, round up a few friends, shoot some e-mails out, and do what you want. Good luck to all. Any questions? M. Keaton PS: Yes, I know the website is out of date. You see, no one gave me access and I'm almost "web-illiterate" as it is. Anyone interested in helping out or who knows our access, feel free to volunteer. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Burschik"To: Sent: Friday, August 09, 2002 1:19 AM Subject: [Cel] Request to join | Dear fellow gamers, | | although this mailing list is decidedly low-volume, the game itself seems to | be going on, and I would like to join Qaiyore, if possible. Thanks for your kind invitation! I think I have a fair understanding of how to write up a "move" and hope to complete my first move during the weekend, but I am less certain about fleshing out my society. To which degree am I free to create a more detailed map of the area, for instance? Where can I find more information about the language of Damaris? Or can I simply invent something, taking the available information on the (related) language of Mir into account? What about a list of trade goods, as provided for Taltheran, for example? Am I free to invent something, or are there restraints? Am I correct in assuming that the climate of the Free Cities is more or less Northern Mediterranean (i.e. subtropical maritime climate), and that flora and fauna are similar? I have jotted down a few ideas about the culture and society of the Damarans. Should I post them to the list, or submit them to the GM for endorsement or possible alteration first? At any rate, I am looking forward to playing Damaris! Regards Michael Burschik P.S.: I have a fair knowledge of web technology and could lend a hand if necessary. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send mail to celandra-off@phoenyx.net.
As a rule of thumb, if it hasn't been detailed already, feel free to make something up. This is very much a world in progress. And always feel free to put something to the list, even if it needs GM approval. Often other players will have input which helps me keep the game in balance or remember things I have forgotten or overlooked. M. Qai as a continent tends toward arid desert in the north and east and heavy fauna in the south and west. Frankly, I'm a lousy GM and I can't keep track of every society's details and how they interract. Putting it to the list gives other players a chance to say "Hey, wait a minute, what about". I also perfer it that way because it promotes a sense of community. I'd much rather that players look at the world as a joint venture with everyone concentrating on seperate parts rather than a secretive "me versus them" style. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send mail to celandra-off@phoenyx.net.
I think the northern regions of Qaiyore could do with more societies, it is unrealistically spare society-wise IMHO, and there is are a lot more possibilities too. cheers, Ibrahim ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send mail to celandra-off@phoenyx.net.
Hello. Keaton and Juuso I have a request. I need to know that statues of the Warmage training. Like how many coutiers are there an estemint on full trained warmages and an estiment of how many are in training. This information would help me to know kinda what to do. I would like to be more detailed then just saying train more warmages. I would like to mention spacific areas. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Get better spam protection with Yahoo!
