Let me begin by summarizing what seems to be on the table at this point. 1) Horganus (Rick B) and Paul Corrish have indicated a willingness to assume at least a portion of the GMing duties. 2) Lois (Solomon) and Geoff Bonn would like to join as new players. Louis (LMP) under the new tag of Mellian would also like to rejoin the game (he was previously booted for inappropriate language and behaviour to the list). 3) Joel (as well as several others whom I suspect are temporarily out of contact) would like to continue. Now, if any of this is incorrect or I have omitted anything, please speak up. Both Paul and Rick have expressed a trepidation with the rules (and I'll be among the first to admit, it's an intimidating thing at first). For my own part, the actual resolution of turns and over-all world continuity are the parts of the game I enjoy the most. It seems logical, then, for Rick and Paul to determine which (or both) would like to take over as primary GM and how they would like to divide up the work. I would like to continue to oversee general continuity and yearly events and I have no problem resolving actions. Anything on the gameplay and rules side of the spectrum, I think Rick and Paul can happily throw my way in whatever manner is best for them. I'll leave it to everyone else to decide if you want to give Louis another chance. I am amicable to this (although it will be a tight probation-I still have no changed my stance on what is appropriate and mature behaviour for the list). I think Lois and Geoff would be welcome additions and I definitely have recommendations as to which societies are open to new players (some, such as the LR are a bit much for a new player, I think, unless they have a vision for what they wish to do). I will, however, reserve that discussion until Rick and Paul determine whether that is something they want me to handle. As far as a time-warp, I personally favor simply continuing from the current year. The game has not gone idel, simply slowed to a crawl. This seems to be the best summary of what I see and where we should proceed from. If anyone has objections, please voice them. Lois and Geoff, feel free to discuss openly on the list. And, Paul and Rick, if no one objects, have a talk with each other and then let me know where you need me as far as rules, et. al. All told, I think this has been a productive discussion. Thank you all. MK ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send mail to celandra-off@phoenyx.net.
I'm also still interested in playing (formerly the Shanari). Personally though I would prefer to play another society more central to the Midsea (such as Kaeir). I cannot help with gaming, but wouldn't mind helping to writing up a newsletter of sorts as a sumarry after each turn. I'm sure you're all familiar with the format. Actually, i'm not familiar with anything. I mean the stuff o nthe site can only sahow you so much, but actually doing it is a different story. I might need to get shown the ropes... in typical newbie fashion of course. And I'd help with the newsletter if needed. - Geoff ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send mail to celandra-off@phoenyx.net.
I much prefer to play the Razanians again, and try to get them involved in the bigger picture. Also hoping to have a quick resolution of the turns from the end of the Razanian-Aryisian War to the current date, or to whatever we settle upon . Following on a idea, or comment, made by Joel or Jason way back when, I would like to be a common threat for the Razanian Coast to unite against, like possibly Aixelsydan, as they seem to have control of both side of the Strait/channel to get into midsea and out. Will be fun if someone can take control of them :) Since Aryisa is NPS as well, I am curious if there can a quick resolution of their turns from the Razanian-Aryisian War or when the last actions was posted, to the present, with some general actions base on the ideas of their lastest actions and on the previous player's idea.. like for example, a short Civil War betwene the Crusaders and Guardians...which the Guardians win thanks to the 'Asagmar Front', Razanian Front in Haran and some influences from some Razanian Kingdoms. A long goal to establish the United Kingdoms of Razania :) Now, the next idea i want to pursue, which i've suggested before, is having Sout invent the Airship, which gradually becomes popular and an alternative to Naval travel.Heck, could be the reason why Aixelsydan becomes more aggressive towards the Razanian Coast, a long with the fact that for the first time in many centuries, the Coast gradually uniting as one. what do people think? I understand that the results are base on the results, but they simply goals/ideas I would like to pursue. -Mellian ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send mail to celandra-off@phoenyx.net.
Just to comment on a few issues raised.
1) I play East Torphan on Qaiyoure. In it's later years to became know as "The Burcancy" to further distinguish itself from it's larger neighbor. The Society list still shows the East Torphan name.
For a time, until it proved too much I GM'd Elyria.
2) I would recommend activating one of these worlds until you got enough people to expand. And might I suggest the GM encourage people to choose countries that are nearby to each other to increase possible interaction between players. And there should be no new societies or very limited number of new societies. There are plenty to take advantage on the board. And over time any player can start to shift their country to met his or her desires.
3) I might also suggest that both Mir and the Fae be removed from player control. The level of magic of these societies seem to be unbalanced. And if you get a brilliant player like Jason in there, they will exploit the rules further to increase the power of their society.
4) I think 1 week a turn is unrealistic. If the web pages could be updated that would be extremely useful. Juuso could perhaps work w/ the GMs to explain how to update the pages or could take their notes and update the materials.
5) The concept of the world of Celendra is that societies are to have limits on magic. If a majority wants more magic then start a new world or go forward or past in Celandra history, 10,000 yrs. for example. Of course, then all the societies would have to be updated and new/old ones added which would mean even more work for the new GMs.
6) Both Keaton and Juuso were extremely helpful in giving feedback about my early decisions about resolving actions. And I can also give feedback as the GMs get used to the game.
7) Whether or not to allow Louis (Mellian) to play again should be a decision of the new GM w/ consultation w/ of the past GMs. The removal was not just the decision of Jason, there was a consensus from others, myself, Keaton, & Juuso.
Louis has the potential to be a very good player and at the time kept running into a limitation. Ultimately, the world is in the hands of God, the GM, it is his vision of this world you have to live with. If your view of the world differs you can disagree but at some point you must bend to his concept or risk being removed or remove yourself. In the past, Louis proved inflexible in his views even sometimes when alternatives were offered and caused enough trouble that it was felt necessary to remove him from the list. We had another playwe who was absolutely brilliant because if the GM disagreed he would take the pieces of his request the GM would agree to and add to those, and he kept on pushing the envelope and finding new ways to generate what he wanted. And sometimes, his new ideas added more to his society then the stuff he was forced to discard.
Perhaps, Louis has refined his approach, if so he would be welcome, if not, then we could easily end up repeating history. The definition of frustration and some say ultimately of insanity - is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. I hope none of us will prove to either frustrated or anything else. :-)
