Celandra is a game in which the players take the roles of societies, rather than playing individual characters. The players will invent a society with its culture and heritage, and will guide its development and interaction with the world. Emphasis will be be placed on developing a detailed history of Celandra, along with myths and legends.

[Cel] Celebration and a RPG

Hello.

Okay I have two things.

One is the Archmage 100th Birthday celebration/
celebration of the end of the Sinari War. I will send
out the "offical" invitation that every country
recieve with my actions, but I would like to know who
(as in who in the goverment as well as who would send
people) would attended. I would imagin that just
attending the celebration would not require an actions
since your not really trying to do anything. (GMs)

The other is that I am going to start a charcter RPG
based in Qaiyore. No it is not an email one. It is
the old fahsion pencil, paper and dies. I have talked
with Juuso and I am going to post the story for each
setion. I am hopeing that this will be able to give
the game some details and flushing out on a level that
we as the great overlords of our socities are unable
to do.

This being said, I need some information. Since I
want to be as true to the players image as is possible
I need some info. Okay this game will start either in
cedonia/Taltheran/Timar area. So I need a physical
description of cedonians. This includes common
height, hari color, eye color, clothing type, and also
desription of the legions (armor, color scemes and
stuff like that.) I could also uses with a brief
descriptions of cedonian villages, and also there
cities. Both building style and cleanlness and the
people who live in them.

Juuso could you give a physical desciption of the
Timarians. Since three players control these people.

I beleave that there is a good description of the
Thatheran culture in the travel log in the mythos, if
some one would venture a guess as to physical
apperance.

Kaeir if I could get information about you as well and
also Ka'shari.

I am a little late asking for this. I have started a
new job and it has kept me very buisy and internet not
working a couple days did not help either. Our first
setion is tomorrow. I know that you can not get me a
full description of what I will need, but if I can get
a sumury by tomorrow afternoon. I would appresiate it
:)

So far in the group we have a Sorcerers of Mir (I
promise it was her choice.) I need Andrews comments
on these two. A retired legionar (we are puting him
as haveing been in some out of the way station were he
really did not get a lot of experince.) I also have
someone who wants to be an assasian. I could really
only think of the Vraa'al as having assasiance. That
was until Andrew sent that email about the
"assaisance" of Coron. I feal that the group should
be completly human, maybe only one non-human race,
since most of qaiyore is human. So do you have any
objection to being one of these assasinace. Oh course
he keeps his job quiet. :)

The other have not choosed yet. They will by tomorrow.

Please people send me comments, ideas, quest,
information that you have in your head about you
people. I want this to help develop the level at the
common persons level. :)

Jason

ps: Keaton were on celandra is that floating city?

[Cel] Celebration and a RPG

Ok, Jason, here's my two cents (you're lucky I'm up late working on a
project).

First off, I have to say "No" to having a PC in your RPG be a secret
assassin for the Order of Coron. To put it in RPG terms, such assassins
should be NPC-only. They only leave their temples when they have an
assignment, and they only target people who try to achieve immortality
or life-extension without divine sanction. That is, of course, assuming
that such a group of assassin-priests exists. In game terms, their
existence is mere rumor, and I haven't decided if it should be anything
more than that.

As far as including a legionary, if he didn't see much action, he was
probably stationed in Cedonian Tirmar, near Talishara and Mirrish
Tirmar. Considering that legionaries sign up for a minimum enlistment
of twenty years, and most enlist at eighteen to twenty, unless he
mustered out due to wounds, that would make him 38 to 40 years old. If
that's too old, you could make him a former legionary officer; Cedonian
army officers purchase their commissions, so the character could have
purchased a subaltern's commission, served a few years, decided that
the legion life was for him, and resold his commission to someone else.

Now, as far as what Cedonians look like, there are three major racial
types(Cedonian, Selarian, Kasovian), and a host of minor types from
Cedonia's past as an empire.

Ethnic Cedonians from the Imperial River basin average 5'10" in height,
rarely exceeding 6'0". They tend to be rather broad and heavy for their
height; the average Cedonian man weighs about 190 lbs, while the
typical Cedonian woman weighs about 150 lbs. Cedonian standards of
female beauty emphasize the voluptuous and the zaftig--Kate Winslet
would be a real-life example. To Cedonian eyes, most American women
considered beautiful are painfully thin. Typical hair colors are
light-brown, dark-brown, and black; blond is very uncommon, and
red-heads nearly unheard of. Hair is generally wavy or moderately
curly. Most Cedonian men start to go bald in their late forties.
Typical eye colors are brown and hazel; again, blue and green are very,
very rare, and usually indicate mixed-ethnicity. Complexions range from
light tan to olive. For a real-life example, think of Greeks,
Sicilians, and Palestinians. Other MidSea peoples often make jokes
about the Cedonian nose, which tends to be markedly hooked and
prominent. Cedonian males have a lot of facial hair; most men need to
shave twice a day to remain clean-shaven, and so beards and mustaches
are common.

Ethnic Selarians come from the plains of Selaria and are renowned for
their horses and horsemen, providing the Cedonian Legions with cavalry.
Selarians are much shorter than Cedonians, averaging only 5'4" in
height, and weighing less in proportion. They tend to be darker of hair
and skin than Cedonians, although the darker skin is often the result
of spending much more time outdoors than the average Cedonian. Their
hair is usually curlier, and their eyes are dark brown, hazel, or
black. Selarians of both sexes tend to be slightly bow-legged. Unlike
the Cedonians, Selarians have little facial hair, and very few Selarian
men go bald, and those that do lose their hair, do so after about the
age of sixty.

Ethnic Kasovians are very different in appearance and culture from the
Cedonians and Selarians. Kasovians are quite tall, averaging 6'2" in
height, but they tend to be wiry in build. Light-brown, blond,
strawberry-blond, auburn, and red are common hair colors, and their
hair is usually straight or slightly waved. Both men and women braid
their hair; the braid pattern signals age and marital status. Blue,
brown, green, grey, and violet-grey are common eye-colors. Both sexes
tend to have unibrows, and a David Letterman-esque gap between the
upper front incisors is very common. Most Kasovian men have beards, but
not mustaches. Due to differences in culture and religion, most ethnice
Cedonians feel uncomfortable around ethnic Kasovians.

In most Cedonian villages, the only stone buildings are the local
blacksmith's shop and the local temple. Most buildings are made of wood
or half-timber wattle-and-daub, and most homes and shops are decorated
with painted wood carvings made by the occupants. Think Eastern
European in style. In the cities, you see more stone buildings, which
are usually governmental or religious, but most buildings are brick,
with carved stone friezes for decoration. Cedonian government and
religious buildings look somewhat gothic, due to the Cedonian love of
carved-stone decorations.

All Cedonian cities have well-maintained aqueducts and sewer systems
and strict sanitary laws. Villages tend to be messier, but as a rule,
the water in Cedonia is safe to drink. Kasovia is an exception.

As far as clothing is concerned, styles vary by ethnicity and region,
but in general clothing styles resemble the later Byzantine empire in
the cities, but less decorated. Most clothes are made of cotton, linen,
or wool, with silk reserved for the elite. Selarian tend to wear a lot
of leather. Kasovians wear patterned woolen kilts and trews to show
clan membership, and often wear knitted wool sweaters over linen
shirts.

Many ethnic Cedonians whittle or carve wood as a hobby; it has to do
with their religion. Ethnic Selarians tend to get obsessed with horses,
racing them, breeding them, stealing them, etc. Ethnic Kasovians are
utterly loyal friends and absolutely implacable enemies who never
forgive or forget an insult.

As a final note, Selarians and Cedonians often intermarry, blurring the
'pure' ethnic types. Kasovians do not often intermarry with the other
two; as mentioned above, this is due to cultural and religious
differences.

That's right.

Timarians are much like Cedonian and Selarian races
in Cedonia.

Unless it says something else in the Taltheran pages,
I would say that Taltherans are slightly taller than
the Timarians, averaging 5'2'', but have the same
stocky build. They are somewhat darker of skin and
have black hair.

D&D 3.5 is the basis but I am makeing rule editing as
I go along. New races (Saara, Ban Horroth, ect..)
Also editing some of the classes. Nationality will
play a very large factor.

Well, D&D really isn't flexible enough to handle Exquaestio, but if you want
to introduce espiri or Rohain into your game let me know and I'll develop the
classes.

[Cel] [qai] Eerith disposition 1444-45

Can't really give them actions but I can fill in some of the questions about
their activities.

> Keaton were on celandra is that floating city?

Still floating over Videssia. The Eerith still believe that the greatest
possibility for hope or destruction resides in Videssia so they remain to
observe and intervene on behalf of the Onagir if necessary.

> The Amo'trall (A terrible plague)

The Eerith will give what aid they can to the sufferers. They consider the
Amo'trall as part of the shamanistic peoples they wish to protect.

>Ka'Shari's search for Rahi

The Eerith will covertly oppose this. Rahi's privacy is a sacred legacy and
they will go to great lengths to assist her in keeping this. As yet,
however, they will not engage overtly unless she is physically threatened.
(It is unlikely that Rahi would react kindly to anyone who disturbs her.
She is an old woman--at least 60 from a harsh climate--and emotionally
scarred.)

>Mir's celebration

The Eerith never miss a public gathering. In this case, they will even go
so far as to officially appear rather than hiding and spying from a shadow.
Most likely, the individual Eerith Useful would attend.

[Cel] [qai] Eerith disposition 1444-45

Speaking of the Eerith (since I forgot to include them in my move): if they're in the public in Mir, how would they respond to a request for a private meeting with the Ka'Shari captains attending the celebrations? As we weren't a significant participant of the Sinari war, we'd be curious to learn whatever they would be willing to tell us about it.

>From your description, I'd assume they're unlikely to mention the priestess or many details of her other than (perhaps) "If she's still alive, there's no good to be done by bothering her."?

Interestingly, I was just reading a story about China whose description of Confucian philosophy paralleled much of what I've tried to emphasize with the Ka'Shari. If you've noticed parallels, they're entirely inadvertent -- but I'm starting to look for more information on Confucian philosophy so I can learn.

[Cel] [qai] Eerith disposition 1444-45

They would meet and give as much (or more) information about the Sinari war
as was requested. Because of their unique makeup, they could almost recite
from memory every detail from beginning to end on both sides. As far as
Rahi, the answer would be a very direct "Don't" and a (thinly) veiled threat
of serious repercussions. Then, being Eerith, they would then advise
"Wouldn't it be easier if you found a way for her to wish to come to you?"
