I've been kicking around some thoughts about language in Cedonia, since this is an area where not much has been done, especially compared to the old Elyria game. First, a note on spelling. When transliterating Cedonian words into Latin characters, "c" should always represent the sound of /k/. However, "Cedon" and "Cedonia" are exceptions to this rule, and should be spelled as "Sedon" and "Sedonia". Also, Kasovia, Kelsh and Zelkor should be spelled "Casovia", "Celsh" and "Zelcor". It would be a great deal of trouble to change the spellings on the maps and the websites, so, outside of discussions on language, the old spellings will stay. The Cedonian language was influenced by both Avaerean and Balpuri, as can be seen in some of the place-names. Place-names which are purely Cedonian include: Thalcedon: Mouth-of-the-River Caladyn: Great Cliff Tirroth: Kingston Tiraren: King's Hill Celsh(Kelsh): Clearing The other cities in Cedonia named on the map have roots in Avaerean or Balpuri. Losela is a contraction of Lochselar, which means the Keep of the Riders, while Vizur is a contraction of Vizinipur, which means Forest City. Inibar and Gomel are both built on the ruins of old Avaerean cities. Millennia ago, Inibar was Tinirbar, the Silver City, and Gomel was Gulmelbar, the City of Dark Wisdom.
