Celandra is a game in which the players take the roles of societies, rather than playing individual characters. The players will invent a society with its culture and heritage, and will guide its development and interaction with the world. Emphasis will be be placed on developing a detailed history of Celandra, along with myths and legends.

[Cel] Action Results?

I noticed that only Kaeir has action results posted on the website . . .
which raises the question of where all the other results are. Do you
need us to resend our actions?

That, and working for 7 days a week (more-or-less). I'm afraid
I haven't been as good GM as I want(ed) to be (I kind of remember
promising to reply all messages within 3 days...). I have been
thinking that somebody else could take the responsbility in
autumn, when my GM-ship hits 2nd anniversary. Think about it :)

Well, it is June 1st now, and I have only compiled the list of actions
for year 1455. So yeah, let's push the start date of 1456 over to next
weekend. Sorry about that.

This proble will work better for me. Just a reminder I will be leaving for Greece tomorrow : ) and will not be back until the 12. (And yes, I am gloating.) So this way I will not miss all of the time to turn in the action. If Juuso could manage it I would like to see what happens before I leave, but if he can't i guess I get to pratice being patient. :) Since I might get the chance to check my email, sincerly dought it.

Well, I resolved the actions (for Mir, Sedonia, Exq., and Kaeir : did
anybody else submit actions? Please remind me if so, because your mail
is probably hiding somewhere in my Inbox).

The numerical results are up on the web site, but they still lack
interpretations. The results were ... interesting. Hardly any "mixed

Ow.

I think that's probably the single worst turn I've ever had.

Quick interpretations:

Action 1: The only success this that Raden Ghere has in his efforts to
build a secret service come in counter-espionage. Unfortunately, that
success reveals that the service is thoroughly penetrated and
compromised. Also, most of the Arelcar refugees want nothing to do with
the Sedonian Government, choosing to either disappear or side with the
Empress.

Action 2: The peasants and the nobility react with strong negativity to
the efforts of the Government to have the Empress abdicate. The people
of Thalcedon have largely mixed feelings on the question. Yzara herself,
while finding both sides of the argument persuasive, decides in the end
that abdicating would be more harmful to Sedonia than not.

Action 3: The cavalry sweeps find very few actual Ice Demons or
Cultists, but they do find evidence of areas where Ice Demons had camped
in secret for a time. Tracks leaving the camps suggest that the Demons
either went west towards Parglug & Junder, or north into Tanimbar.

The sweeps do find a village near where King Opozoya was attacked which
had been taken over by Cultists. While no Shadowspawn or Ice Demons are
present, they do find a small coven of Hand of Garr Cultists led by a
human vampire. The village is purified with minimal casualties. Overall,
General Martros is satisfied that the Ice Demons have left Burcancy.
Unfortunately, that means that they are someplace else . . .

Action 4: The Empress's return upset Sedonia's balance of power. After
an election which saw high turnout among the urban poor, the
Constitutional Monarchists find themselves forced into an uneasy
three-party coalition with the Imperial Loyalists and the Urban League.
Hanging over everyone's head after the election is Empress Yzara's
announcement of a plan to reform Sedonian government.

Oops, I just noticed that I hadn't taken the fudge point into
account for this action. I rerolled, and got a success for it.
I changed the interpretation above to this:

The cavalry sweeps find evidence of areas where Ice Demons had camped
in secret for a time. Following the tracks, they manage to intercept
and destroy several smallish bands of Ice Demons. Not all, though.
There are several already cold tracks leading which suggest that the
Demons either went west towards Parglug & Junder, or north into Tanimbar.

I have also added some other interpretations on the web page, specifically:

Mir / Action 3 / Gods: The gods don't want Garr back, and decide to take
a direct hand in the matter...

Exquaestio / Action 1 / Magical alliance: The gods are not too
enthusiastic of Feroze's suggestions. But then Miracradsa, the most
learned and sophisticated of them, decides to act decisively
against Garr, and suggests cooperation for Feroze.

Exq. / Action 5 / Group Magic: This is an opening action. Based on the
result I would say that it's a 'Very hard' action with a pool of
3 successes, or 'Hard' action with 6 successes required.

Kaeir / Action 1 / Brotherhood:
Only a few people suitable for the Brotherhood are found, and
willing to join. In a stroke of luck, the Brotherhood stumbles upon a
small cell of Hand of Garr in Tirmaeir, and demolishes it. This
generates good publicity, and recruitment next year would be Easy (+1).

Kaeir / Action 5 / Basiluddin:
The troops welcome Basiluddin back to Saltrimi. But Basiluddin
himself is not too happy with the assignment (he was looking forward for
something new), and is not too careful with his words about it...
Luckily, this does not matter, since people tended to assume Basiluddin
to be in the lead anyway.

Rhudyn / Action 3 / Evacuation:
The command structure of Tana is in chaos, and they cannot
properly support the evacuation operations. However, the border areas
are cleared, luckily in such order that the Ice Demon's advance scouts
only find burned fields.

Jason, when can we expect action results?

I have to say, if we don't hear from you on the list by Wednesday, I'm
probably going to resolve most of the actions myself and have one of the
other guys resolve my actions.

Resolution of turns is just taking too long, and it's really breaking up
the flow of the game and taking the fun out of it.

So this way I will not miss all of the time to turn in the action. If Juuso could manage it I would like to see what happens before I leave, but if he can't i guess I get to pratice being patient. :) Since I might get the chance to check my email, sincerly dought it.

Some thoughts on the other societies:

Mir: The dice gods still love Mir. Looks like the Ice Demons might lose
some of their magical oomph.

Exquaestio: Finally has a good year in what matters most. As for the
printing press, why reinvent the wheel? The technology will be available
within the next ten years or less.

Kaeir: A new institution of higher learning, yay! BTW, Marlupin
translates as "Little Wolf" not "Red Wolf". In other news, Kaeir's
military build-up seems to be outstripping its logistics; it seems Lord
Basiluddin can't keep a secret; and wasn't Quetzal the one who came back
from the raid with all those odd tattoos?

This isn't an action to create a new invention. It's an action to create a
business. When the printing press becomes available, they'll use it (no
actions required), but until then block printing is adequate.

Ah, I see. It wasn't clear from the original description. Makes much
more sense now.

[Cel] Exquaestio Results

Action 1: Magical Alliance

Results:

While the gods are not enthusiastic about Feroze's suggestion, Demerhaze,
Miracradsa, and Arlova accept his offer of alliance in order to act
decisively against Garr. This immediately affects espiri magics, but will
require time to affect the magics of the more traditional religious orders.
Other gods also offer cooperation, but not to the point of sharing divine
authority.

Action 2: Tanimbar Goblins

Results:

Exquaestio is able to demonstrate that the goblins currently in the
Burcancy do not come from Tanimbar. Unfortunately the open revelation of
Exquaestio's dealings with the goblins sours relations with Tanimbar for a
few years and slows missionary efforts. Sour as relations become, certain
individuals are still more than willing to profit from trade with the goblins.

Action 3: Rebuild Rohain

Results:

Though numbers remain low, the rohain recover their will and discipline.
Though all contributed, it was a priest (Night's Daughter) sent by
Demerhaze who turned the organization in the face of the lack of leadership
caused by last year's deaths.

Action 4: In-house Press (1 of 3 first)

Description: Something has to be done about Exquaestio's information
bottleneck. This action will give Exquaestio the Printing craft. Because of
the urgent need this business will start up with the existing block
printing technology. They will switch to movable type as soon as it's
available.

Results:

Though most agree that this is probably the best solution to Exquaestio's
information problems, difficulties with funding and finding trained people
prevent the project from progressing.

Action 5: Group Magic (1 of 6 first)

Results:

Though popular with mages, the idea of this project goes over poorly to the
general populace. Still, a beginning is made.
