[Cel] Magical Weapons

I have been trying to put together a Mirrish trade list. I know that Mir would defently be a producer of magical items, know admitedly were not talking about talking swords or excalibur, but sword that seem to move faster or can burn or freeze their opponent. Well Andrew I was wondering if their would be market in Cedonia for theses. Admitedly only the wealthy, or thoughs who recieve as a gift from their military for service rendered would proble have them in most any country even Mir.

I don't think there'd be much of a market beyond a few of the nobles . .
. although the /Euscardi gyo Medalus Proskifar/ (Ministry of Special
Projects) might be interested. Most Cedonian military weapons are, in a
sense, enchanted, in that they're blessed by Mithrac or Torronir or
both. This doesn't give them much in the way of special abilities,
beyond being high quality.

[Cel] Magical Weapons

How would this be possible with Celandran magic?

Magic in Celandra is not like that of D&D etc, but the manufacture of
sorcerous weapons would have profound effects on a society where it is
used, and on warfare in general.

Perhaps such weapons could be modelled more on those like Elric's
Stormbringer? Rare, powerful, but with profound side-effects?

I wouldn't be very keen on the idea of magical weapons, as this would
alter the nature of the Qaiyore world I think. If they do exist, they
would be rare and definitely not common, and would have to have some
catch
to them.

How do the weapons power themselves (after all, a sorcerer wouldn't
maintain the weapon's power themself)? Do they draw on the owner's
energy
, or are they like Stormbringer?

Are these weapons for sorcerers only, or non-magical humans as well?

Are the weapons manufactured for specific individuals? And is there
therefore a magical bond between the owner/purchaser and the weapon
(perhaps only the owner can use it?)?

And would an owner of such a weapon seek to advertise the fact? If they
are rare, they would be prized and valuable - the owner might fear it
being stolen. If they are not prized, then they would be feared - the
owner might not want to advertise the fact

Some food for thought... :)

Ibrahim

[Cel] Magical Weapons

I agree that D&D-style magical weapons aren't likely. However, like I
told Jason a while back, many Sedonian weapons are "magical" in that
during the making process they're blessed by priests of Mithrac or
Torronir. The final product isn't magical in any flashy way, it's simply
of high quality & durability--an example might be the sword belonging to
the Discworld's Captain Carrot: it's not magical per se, it's just
*really* sharp.

[Cel] Magical Weapons

I would think this is more like it. And the magic sword wouldn't
probably be much special as a sword. A magic sword called 'Dragon's
breath' could draw open a conduit to the heart of a volcano, and
spit away a ray of hot plasma (thus the name). But that would be
just an additional effect. Other than that, it would be just a
sword. Beautifully crafted, probably. Well, at least until it spits
away the plasma and turns itself (and the carrier, and anyone within
15 feet radius) to bubbling iron and ashes (next clone, please).

Both. But they are rare, anyway.

I wouldn't say no to this. If you tie the magic into some Authority.
And only certain individuals would have the authority (like high priest,
or elected president, or some bloodline).

Most probably all such items are either highly secret, national
treasures, or both, or lost.
