Hi This email start year 1453. Actions are due in two weeks, and next year starts in the beginning of April. Below are events for this year. *Videssia [+4]:* Under the threat of the Ice Demons, the Videssians are united under one flag. In the safety of the coastal areas, they regroup, make plans, and then start to push back the Ice Demons. *Parglug [-4]:* A second army of the Ice Demons attacks Parglug from south. *Ice Demons:* As perceived from the Floating City and from news elsewhere, the Ice Demons have obviously divided into a number of smaller armies. At least one of the armies is attacking Parglug from southeast, and another one has cut through Videssia and is now quickly approaching the Tana border. juuso ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send mail to celandra-off@phoenyx.net.
Juha, Can I get a bit more direction on both the status of the Rimrivertown settlement (in terms of relations with the Panchayyah and the Grand Shaman), and the state of the Ban Horroth (has the civil war stopped, or has the Kaeirean mission succeeded, or is there still a stalemate)? thanks, Ibrahim Juha Vesanto wrote: >Hi > >This email start year 1453. Lots of questions here.
How are the demons armed and armored? How much magic are they using and what
form does it take? Are they using some sort of strategy or are they just
using overwhelming numbers? How does this compare to the last invasion?
(A thought: Perhaps _all_ goblins have a particular talent, not just those
with a talent for mechanisms. Some goblins might have a talent for languages,
others for farming; and some might have a talent for strategy. Many, of
course, would have talents without any practical use. If true, Exquaestio
would have learned this from the Tanimbar goblins and could pass the
information along to those who might be able to target any special strategists.)
Did the demons cross the Arand river? Did they plant troops to hold the
Videssians in place and if they did how many and how well fortified? Could
troops be shipped down the Arand and then to Tana by sea?
What's the supply situation of the demons in the east?
Which is larger, the force hitting Tana or the force hitting Parglug?
What is the name of the river between Videssia and Tana? What's the name of
the largest town on that river? That town is the seat of an Exquaestio
Bishop. What are the possibilities of using that ecclesia to summon one or
more divine servants from the dreaming help fight against the demons?
Also, Exquaestio has crossed the 20,000 mark and we need to discuss expansion.
I'll try to put together my thoughts on that this weekend.

Well, if we lift some ideas from that story I wrote, if Yaga the
Destroyer is the goblin war-god, that suggests a certain direction for
Ice Demon military behavior. ("No, no! *First* you pillage, *then* you
burn!")

This was also in the back of my mind when I wrote that story: since most
goblin talents seem to follow idiot savant lines, Scorax the Mad, Who
Knew Too Much, seems like the obvious source of such abilities . . . as
well as explaining the rather random appearance of such talents.

I think, but I'm not sure if it's been definitively stated, that the Ice
Demons largely live of off foraging, which is part of what drives their
advances. They can also eat a lot of things humans can't or won't eat.

Bear in mind that such a divine servant would very likely be opposed.
The river has no name, AFAIK, ditto for any town.

They can also eat a lot of things humans can't or won't eat. That sort of thing has its limits. Hold them in one place for long enough and they'll start eating each other. Even the Mongols armies, reknowned foragers, traveled with herds of cattle or were supplied by the tribute of conquered nations. This actually might explain the way the demon army shattered during the last invasion. If that's the case, though, they probably learned from it. Which makes sense of the lesser numbers they seem to be using, but would still mean some sort of supply plan, though it may well be inadequate. Another thought is that without a supply chain the armies will die when they reach the northern deserts or the straight. (Of course, the demons may not realize that.)
