Celandra is a game in which the players take the roles of societies, rather than playing individual characters. The players will invent a society with its culture and heritage, and will guide its development and interaction with the world. Emphasis will be be placed on developing a detailed history of Celandra, along with myths and legends.

[Cel] new players...?

Hi folks,

Have been reading through the celandra archives, and noticed again that
the Celandra game used to have a much larger number of players.

I am wondering then, how we might go about recruiting more players into
the game (for added vitality)?

Ideas?

Ibrahim

I don't have many, I'm afraid. I agree, though, that it's a concern--but
on the other hand, fewer players makes processing actions go faster.

Part of the problem is that PBEMs have been losing ground to MMORPGs for
years, I think; but another part of it is that, let's face it,
Interactive History is a little esoteric.

We've created (especially in the last year or so) a dense, interlocking
mythos which is spread out over at least four webpages and countless
emails. This can make it it hard for outsiders to come in: a newbie
joins up and says "I want to do 'X'" only to be told that he or she
can't because 'Y' happened ten game years ago.

One thing which we might consider: as Jason said in his "Movers and
Shakers" post, we're about to hit 50 game years. Perhaps we should take
a hiatus to spend some time concentrating *all* Celandran information
onto the Main Phoenyx pages, updating and reorganizing as needed. As it
stands, a new player looking for a culture to play would go to the
Tripod pages, and the Cultural information there is seriously out of
date. Also, we might want to put a link to the Celandra Archives in a
prominent place on the Qaiyore pages.

We should also consider updating our blurb on the Phoenyx Game page, and
we perhaps should try to forge more connections with the greater Phoenyx
gaming community.

[Cel] new players...?

Andrew,

I think you're right. Especially about connecting with the rest of the
Phoenyx community.

I just went through the archive, and found a fair degree of discrepancy
between it, the old game site and the phoenyx site. Making it all fit
into a more cohesive site (and an easier to read one) might be better.
Perhaps "reading efficiency" should be our catchphrase?

IH is esoteric, but we're all here. We'll never get the numbers playing
Warcraft online (but we'd never want those anyway). Attracting a few
more like-minds though would be nice (especially for the northern Midsea
- I'm the only player!!! : ( ).

* The first thing perhaps that anyone sees upon coming to the Celandra
site is a brief thing about what the game is about and how to play.

* Shift everything over from the old site? That'll take a while I
realise, but would make things easier.

* The Qaiyore page is beginning to get long though - perhaps we should
decide what the layout/structure should be, then we can proceed
individually to sort it out?

regards to all, hope your monday is as good as mondays can be, : )

Not just easier . . . I'm beginning to think it is essential, not just
for the Qaiyore material, but also the Elyria. As it is, I know that
there's stuff that's been lost.

Yeah, we definitely need to stop putting everything down on the main page.

My Monday is going to be lousy--my spring break is over. Still, due to
one of my instructors taking a vacation, I get Thursday & Friday off
this week, which is nice.

[Cel] new players...?

I have been slowlly moving the Mirish society page from the old website to the new website.

If we are going to reorganize the webpage and move information from the old pages then I think we will need to desided

1) what we want moved
2) what we want moved first, second, ect.
3) are we going to unit the Elyria page with the Qaiyore page

I think is to figure out need is figure out what we want the new webpage to look like. It looks good now, but thier is not a section for histories for example. So I think we will need to desided on a bigger scale what we are aming for. Example being if we do add Elyria that is a lof more information that is about fourty game turns of information.

I also think one of the first things we need to do is update our own societies pages. Mirs has been none excistence until today, and Cedonia still has stats for the civil war. Jeff really is the only one up to date.

For Mirs society page I am using the formate of the old page society page so that their will be Determintants page, a page that give a chronogly of events with links to the action page. Then were we have the section were normall would put the history/ philosphy and ect I would put the Mirs player contributions there.

I think we should:

1) Decide on the format for the Qaiyore website (I propose that the main
Qaiyore page is kept ultra-simple)
    - for the main Qaiyore page
    - standardise the society pages too (perhaps the old site format)
2) Fix the Qaiyore website (including transferring old site stuff over)
3) Do the same for Elyria (though admittedly at a slower rate)

I think player contributions could be put on a single page, as many of
the stories from different societies are interrelated.

IMHO

If the group owner sets
the "numoderate" option to 1 or higher, then you oughtn't get much in the
way of this post at all. Numoderation (numeric moderation) means you have
to get 1 (or more) messages approved by the moderator before you can post
unmoderated. Keeps the spam and UNSUBSRIBE!!11!!! posts to a minimum.

(And because I'm posting this from my Bloglines subscription, *I* will probably
get numoderated. Heh.)

Yes, you did :)

Actually, chad's email, which came to me for moderation, had several
lines of text:

"I want to get in on the game, but I dont know much about
anything.  I was thinking of playing as Rhudyn.  I know its in
the free cities but it is its own nation seperate from the others.
If not them then I want to play Celpolar.  Get back to me please, I
have some good Ideas for my country."

The text was inside HTML tags, though. I don't know what happened to it.
Karen? The moderation ID was MOD1112035565.

That used to be the way it was, I think--I know that the first time I

I can tell you without even bothering to look that it was within HTML tags
like this:

blah blah

The HTML-to-text convertor we
use converts the entire body of the HTML page... that is, everything inside
tags. Yahoo and Hotmail've had broken HTML mailers for years, but
Chad, if you turn off HTML-only, it'll work fine.

I will note that there are some old players that are still here, just quiet. :)

Has anyone looked recently to see how many email addresses are
currently on the list? We could compare that to the current "active"
roster to get an impression of the number of lurkers.

[Cel] new players...?

Hi webmaster (it's Karen, isn't it?),

Why do we get "Interactive Trash.History in Celandra" at the top of the
page when
looking at: http://www.phoenyx.net/cgi-bin/twiki/bin/view/Celandra/WebHome?

Best regards,
   folks over at Celandra

Here is today's celandra status report.

Distribution counts ('distrib' is main group):
distrib: 29 users
digest: 2 users
bouncers: 0 users
qaiyore: 32 users
elyria: 31 users

There are some duplicates in there, so I estimate that in addition to
the 4 active players,
there are about 20 lurkers on the list.
