Avan Nightwalker, Master-Instructor of the Brotherhood of the Night. Avan Nightwalker, or Avan Lorpansan von Mirri as he was previously known, comes from a long line of Celtelathi seers. Avan's father was one of few Lords who did not support the Revolution and the traditional patron of the sole Miracradasian temple attended by Kaeireans (the other is in the Mirrish Enclave in Port Kaeir and is exclusively for the use of residents of the Enclave), in Port Kaeir. His mother was from the Mirrish Creole in Port Kaeir, and Avan was the product of an extra-marital affair. His father pays for an expensive esoteric education, determined to make up for the lack of financial inheritance Avan would have received as a legitimate son, and sofrom the age of five, Avan was tutored by Scaltast von Gomel in philosophy, history, languages, and elementary sorcery, who clearly influenced the young Avan with his unorthodox thinking. During the revolution, Avan's father sends him and Scaltast away from Port Kaeir to Mirabalpur to prepare for entry into the University. At the age of ten, Avan is admitted into the University of Mirbalpur to study sorcery, where he excelled in his studies but was infamous for his interest in philosophy. Avan returned to Kaeir a mage, an adept in the Zayurus fighting style and a priest of Miracradasa. However, his orders with the clergy of Miracadasa are short-lived, as he abandons them upon the discovery that his father was killed in the sacking of the Kaeirean temple of Miracradasa by radicals during the revolution after the temple faithful, the Mirrish Enclave and apparently even Miracradasa had abandoned his father and the temple. Though the temple has been rebuilt, Avan renounces his orders and leaves the islands, join in his old tutor and friend Marlupin in New Tirmaeir, where a number of his peers from Mirbalpur have settled. Through Marlupin, Avan learnt the Millat, and became a close friend of the future Keeper, Arlhan von Kahshaar. And inturn, through his friendship with the Keeper, Avan participates in the founding of the Brotherhood of the Night, his first chance to apply his own philosophies on religion and magic. As a member of the Brotherhood of the Night, Avan Lorpansan von Mirri abandons his family name, adopting the moniker all Nightbrothers will adopt to show their loyalty to the Brotherhood and their rank. So Avan becomes Avan Nightwalker (later Nightmaster), highest ranking member of the Brotherhood, and Master-Instructor of the brotherhood. Under Avan Nightwalker, the Brotherhood's educational system developed into a mixed program of apprenticeships and general classes, where every initiated Nightbrother took an apprentice and imparted to him his skills and specialisations, and where a common skill foundation was taught through daily lessons taught by the Masters of the Brotherhood. Avan Nightwalker's first apprentice was a native of New Tirmaeir, Doranax Nightchild. Avan Nightwalker also was responsible for the introduction of the rites of spellbinding amongst the Brotherhood. 1425: Avan Lorpansan von Mirri born to Lord Lorpan van Arrix and Marial von Mirri out of wedlock, therefore he is unable to use the noble surname of van Arrix. 1430: Scaltast von Gomel is fired from University of Mirabalpur for sexual misconduct.
