Subject: Ars Magica

Have you looked at Darksword Adventures by (don't flame me) Weis and
Hickman.

The trilogy wasn't up to much story-telling wise, but the characters,
atmosphere and settings were highly original, and the RPG supplementary book
made for some excellent late night intrigue, plotting and (frankly)
espionage-style 'gaming in a highly magic charged world many Summers ago.

OMHO, a good setting to run with as an alternative to Ars Magica for That
Sort(tm) of gaming.

Oh, and to stay on topic, the rules and FUDGE should merge beautifully. The
Magic system is very like 4-by-5 on steroids.

Have you ever used this to simulate a magical duel (ala Disney's the Sword in the Stone) where wizards keep trying to outdo one another until one wins.

I've got the 3rd edition, the one produced by White Wolf.

I got it (Atlas' 4th edition) for free when I renewed my Shadis subscription.

Has anyone here played Ars Magica?

It is a very rules HEAVY system, but the magic system was way cool.

The magic system is a lot like the Gramarye, though I hadn't read Ars Magica when I developed it.

12 Weis and Hickman seem to be real game designers and while I don't generally care that much for their writing I know people who love it. I do find their game designs quite elegant and unique. LanceDyas 2000-06-08 13:19:14
