At DunDraCon this weekend I played a "free" game called Brutal by David
Stanley among others. David, a nice and talented guy, was GMing it. It
was fun and easy enough to get into I actually played it 3 times.
It's a minirature/rpg game, fantasy, total hack&slash. It struck me as
FUDGE for minratures. It has something similar to scale. Simple
mechanics with all those cruchy modifers wrapped up into a single
roll/modifer. It uses lots of d6's which bums me out and I've been
trying to figure out how to bolt Fudge dice onto it. It blends
wargamming and rpg elements better than anything I have seen. The rules
are well layed out and have lots of nice art (David has spent $30,000 in
art over the 8-10yr development period). KoDT gave it very favorable
review.

I think the rules are free to use not free to modify and redistribute.
But, I didn't get into licenses with David. He did say they make/change
rules to please Brutal's userbase.
I was a little suprised that David had never heard of Fudge. I think
there are few places where cross-fertilization would be beneficial.
