Okay, so I've got another one-shot coming up, as a prelude to a possible
regular game. I'd love to sell them on Fudge, and I think they'd be
interested in The Collectors as a general setting.
I'm looking for a list of tweaks that would alter the flavor, "fix"
abuses players might attempt, or just plain add elements. I'll pick and
choose as appropriate for me and my players, and I thought others might
value such a list as well. (If we get enough, I'll Wiki-fy it)
This list shouldn't assume there's anything _wrong_ that it's trying to
fix, so much as creating interesting variations.
Here's what I've got so far:
- The players don't work for Hell, but for one of the Dark Powers.
Others are out there, and angels aren't the only competition.
Alternatively, various lieutenants of hell have their own
organizations, and compete against one another. (The typical weakness
of evil)
- Rather than getting human identities, use the Uninvited Guests rules
from Fudge Factor. (blatant plug) Thus you have not only the Guest's
history, but also the host from time to time.
- Replace the Affinities system with some other magic mechanic to reduce
some of the more game-harmful possibilities.
- Split the players, and have them working for opposing sides. The
trick is that the "good" side wants the client to redeem themselves
for the good of the act, not to avoid Hell. Obviously there'd have to
be some rules about how the two sides cooperate/interact, since you'd
want them to be one team.
- Keep a common setting, with several recurring NPCs. This helps
continuity and growth.
- Players may embrace the whole "damned" routine, removing any sort of
moral dilemma for their characters. Grant them Demonic
Fudge Points for appropriate actions, but if they become too evil,
they are "reassigned" and not heard from. Maintain the tension
between power and a dark fate.
- Meld with some Dead Inside ideas, and have the characters be people
who have lost their souls, and are doing collection duties as part of
service to regain them.
- Steal from Brimstone and others, and have Collection just be one of
their duties. They may be assigned to hunt down rogues, investigate
religions, deliver christmas cards for Ozzy Osbourne, and other tasks
in addition to normal collection efforts.
