Subject: 6dF

I've been toying with the idea of using 6dF instead of 4dF. So far, it's been
nice. Rolls are much more likely to land in the characters area of expertise,
and extraordinary rolls are even more rare. It also extends the range (-6 to
+6), which I also like.

Has anyone else done this, and how well did it work for you?

I played a campaign where I used 4d6.1 for most actions, and 4dF in combat or "stressful" actions.

I think that's true.

One could do something similar to the d4-d4 system and use d6s, which would yield a result anywhere from +5 to -5.

Have you used this in Actual Play yet?

That's true with regular fudge, but I've increased the range of "average".

It was always my impression that the bell curve becomes more narrowsharp and not more flat nor shallow, and that that's where you pick up the edges.

1dF, 0 = 33.3%
2dF, 0 = 33.3%
3dF, 0 = 25.9%
4dF, 0 = 23.5%
5dF, 0 = 21.0%
6dF, 0 = 19.3%

Everything gets reduced a little bit as you add dice, but the center cer

That the bell-curve doesn't flatten out as you add dice is certainly not true.

I know that using subtraction methods to generate Fudge rolls (like d6-d6) has been discussed before, but I was wondering if anyone else has considered any other ways of doing them.

So does anyone have any of these alternate dice methods that have been tested out in actualy play and that have "worked" in the opinion of the players and GM at the time?
