It sounds interesting but you must remember the old magic design question "If magic is that easy why don't wizards run the whole world". (Unless they DO run the world in your campaign). This leads to the questions like "Why would a city that is trying to modernize go to the trouble of putting in gas lamps when a magic user can just case continual light in every light pole?".

Just something to consider if you do develop this.

Have a good day,
Mitch

It sounds interesting but you must remember the old magic design question "If magic is that easy why don't wizards run the whole world".

I have always liked the answer, "They wouldn't." That is why fantasy worlds often have thousands of years of history with little if any technological development.

Exactly.

The whole point of RPing is to do something you can't do in real life. I mean, who wants to RP working as a dishwasher in a bad restaurant? Nobody...

I imagine the magical internet happening as a wonderful accident in scrying technology.

Not sure what utility this will provide, but I will answer from my game's standpoint.

This may be due to your not realizing that the Hobbit Mafia loves to move in on new taverns and try and bomb them out.

In my experience it's better if you compliment the good bits and add the parts that should be fixed with "and" instead than with "though", "on the other hand" or "but", to cite a few.

GobLyn 2005-08-01 18:57:49
21 It seems kind of rude to assume that any differences in play style between a group of players and their GM is due to the GM not being "creative" enough.

That was not my intent, and hopefully I didn't come off that way to the original poster.

JuddGoswick 2005-08-02 14:26:47
22 Although I didn't take any particular insult, thanks to those jumping to my defense.

Anyway, Robb just about hit the nail on the head as far as the game situation went.

Maybe that is the perfect segue into a new topic - how to keep a serious tone in a game?

In my group, when we were meeting to game, we would always have a mandatory 'BS Hour' before the game, to catch up, to rant, or just to BS...if we didn't do this, it came out

What I've found is that when I set the proper tone with my descriptions and my rolplaying of the supporting cast, the other players tend to fall into that same mode.

I think the point that the original post was trying to make was that the players were taking the game in a different direction and that particular direction didn't appeal to him.
