Among the several discussion groups hosted by Phoenyx is the Macrospace
discussion list. Actually, we've renamed the project "E-Space" to avoid
a potential conflict with another gaming endeavor. Since we're a fairly
small group, I thought I'd send this email out to update others on what
we've been up to.
The purpose of E-Space is to create a comprehensive Sci-fi setting. We
hoped to create a core milieu within which GMs could create autonomous
campaigns. Our approach to this was to create a flaky FTL travel
approach. Basically, a FTL route is difficult to establish, fairly
difficult to reliably use, and overuse can lead to a failure of the route.
To "reach out" to various styles, we hoped to create a history trunk
that would allow virtually any human-based campaign to branch out from.
We broke the trunk into various time periods that were roughly Tech
Level-based. In 2004 we had a bit of a time getting something detailed,
which is evidenced by earlier documentation. [1]
Basically, our idea was to create periods of expanse or unity and
periods of disunity.
The year 2005 has been very active for us, especially after the six
month hiatus in the latter half of 2004. We adopted the Lexicon approach
to fleshing out the milieu. Three of us, John, Aaron and I, zealously
pursued a very ambitious 200-entry lexicon game that detailed a human
empire, the Imperium. [2]
We are presently contemplating the next lexicon, which would go back to
the Emergence Era to help flesh out the beginning. [3] Presently, this
lexicon is not planned to be as ambitious as the first. However, we also
should be fixing the timeline for the Imperium Edition.
