Subject: Keys rock!

Hi Group,
I actually ran a game of Fudge a couple a days ago for some family members, including someone that had never roleplayed before, and two children aged 12 and 14. None of them are 'gamers' as such.
I used the same scenario I'd run at a small convention back in April, using my Kalyr RPG playtest build, which uses Keys (As in The Shadow of Yesterday, but giving Fudge points rather than experience points)
What took me by surprise is how *all* the players instantly grasped the concept of keys, and roleplayed them far more strongly that would ever happened if I'd used Faults.
Who else has used keys, and were your experiences with them as positive as mine?

0 A guy named David Bezio came up with a fantastic build that he called FAST: Fudge Action Simple Tactical, which does a great job of making Fudge a level-based system. PaulTarus 2008-01-26 23:37:15
1 Phill: Each fault will have a minor or continuous appearance in the movie and then a major one If you don't reward the players for doing this (the continuous level), what incentive do they have for doing it? Sorry for the late reply, I am on holidaz and h PhillWebb 2008-01-13 18:06:35
2 I have fun converting systems (sad isn't it).  I will take a look that this weekend when i'm not behind a 'no-games' firewall.   If you are looking for a 'Red Box' feel in a Fudge game, have you looked at "Hack n Slash" from Digital Alchemy?&nbs Mitchw 2008-01-25 18:11:38

4 No, this is not a plea for spiritual awakening. I've been reading and hearing about a little game someone wrote which was inspired by the original "Red Box" edition of D&D. Lovingly crafted, here it is: http://www.geocities.com/rpgjunkie74/page4.html PaulTarus 2008-01-25 15:38:07
5 Fudge Hack-n-Slash is fantastic and I highly recommend it. JTimLoud 2008-01-25 22:56:48
6 OK, I've got the "straight conversion" version up on the Guide. PaulTarus 2008-01-29 04:52:18
7 No, this is not a plea for spiritual awakening. You mean different game systems AREN'T different denominations of one great religion? MikeConway 2008-01-25 17:53:51

10 Ok, so here's my starting point for the conversion. 1. PaulTarus 2008-01-27 00:31:16
11 David is sometimes known better as 'Grubman' on some boards.  He was trying to merge the Fast, Fun, and Furious features of Savage Worlds with Fudge when he started working on FAST.  After a while he decided that is wasn't really an improvement Mitchw 2008-01-25 18:26:09

13 I've worked out another dice technique that can work with Fudge traits. MarkCunningham 2008-03-10 09:24:01

18 Has anybody ever tried to convert Star Frontiers rpg before? Some guy has just released a digitally remastered pdf version of it, at: http://www.starfrontiersman.com Jonas 2008-01-03 05:10:29
19 Who else has used keys, and were your experiences with them as positive as mine? Not Keys exactly but... After running my Special Forces action Movie role playing the other week I have been thinking about ways to make the characters faults come up in play PhillWebb 2008-01-03 14:33:21

24 I put up my "Red Box Hack" conversion on the Guide a little while ago, and now I've created a procedure for creating episodic adventures without any prep. PaulTarus 2008-02-21 00:00:37

26 First point: Treat any +2 bonus listed in the rules as "set a die as a (+) before rolling the rest" and any +5 bonus as "set a die as a (+) AND bump the final result up by one level" (or just a straight +2). Second point: For survival, roll 4dF. PaulTarus 2008-01-28 06:07:29

34 Now, with that out of the way, I'd really like to hear how you feel using Keys impacted the game. 1. PaulTarus 2008-01-04 06:41:41
35 I haven't seen a conversion of it, but there is a PDF character sheet at: http://www.geocities.com/cmdrcody_2000/fudge.htm Comander Cody (character sheet only) There is a _Savage Worlds_ conversion on that website that could be easy to convert. There is JTimLoud 2008-01-04 13:13:35
