Despite the number of people who won't wade over into Usenet, there are still a LOT of people reading the newsgroups. It is moderated (by myself) and it can sometimes take 24-48 hours (longer if you post on a Friday evening) before your posting is approved. But most PBeMs which have advertised there pick up a bunch of prospective players. Coyt D. Part of their offering is advertising your game in various areas and helping attract players. And with the Phoenyx reputation for carrying good games, that's easier than going it alone. -- Carl D Cravens (raven@phoenyx.net) GMAST List Owner It's not just a mistake, it's an adventure! ---------------------------------------------------------------- GMAST Home Page: http://www.phoenyx.net/gmast/

However, keep in mind that *how* you advertise will be very important in attacting those quality players that you want. An effective ad should contain a brief description of the game, including what system is being used, how often players should be prepared to respond and who to follow-up with if they are interested. In all, it should not be more than one or two paragraphs long. For Example: Players wanted for a new Classic Traveller-based RPG being run on The Phoenyx (www.phoenyx.com) called "Rumors of War". The game will center around the officers, crew and Marine detachment of the _INS Miller_, a _MacCloud_ class Patrol Cruiser assigned to patrol the Imperial borders in the Deneb Sector. Characters can come from any Imperial subject race (this includes Vagr, Aslan and Droyne) but must be either Naval or Marine personell (some special cases exist, please contact the GM for details). Players should be able to check their email and respond at least twice a week, more frequently would be preferred. For more details, contact the GM, Michael Feldhusen (mike_f@io.com (home) or mikef@pharlap.com (work)). BTW, don't be surprised if something like this appears on within the next week or so. . . . -- Michael Feldhusen mike_f@io.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- GMAST Home Page: http://www.phoenyx.net/gmast/

I was just so proud of getting something coherent out of them that I forgot to make sure it was *correct*. My bad. > (We picked .net on purpose, back when the extensions actually meant > something. The one I use most of the time is http://www.pbem.com/new-game.html I will periodically re-announce my game there. Another good one is on is http://www.pbm.com The last thing I do is to make a web site for the game and ensure that it is listed in multiple search engines (Web Crawler, Lycos, Yahoo, etc.) I draw in around 3 or 4 new players each week and can keep one of those players every other week. (The remainder of the interested parties either cannot abide by my rules or are just not what I am looking for in a player.) Tim "Beestie" Baer http://aeropaeia.tripod.com ... And so far I'd say that our track record isn't bad. http://www.phoenyx.net/pbemlist.html -- Carl D Cravens (raven@phoenyx.net) GMAST List Owner Press any key to continue or any other key to quit. ---------------------------------------------------------------- GMAST Home Page: http://www.phoenyx.net/gmast/
Hi folks , Just a quick question , whats the best way to deal with a powergamer in a pbem ? ---------------------------------------------------------------- GMAST Home Page: http://www.phoenyx.net/gmast/

>Just a quick question , whats the best way to deal with a powergamer in a >pbem ? Im not quite sure about the meaning of a powerplayer, but -- if I'm correct -- is one who spends all his points in raising his combat skills to the top. Im assuming, in my response, that this is the correct def. --- Set difficulties/challenges that makes the character as well as its player think. Not everything is resolved with an attribute roll... NOTE: State up front you're rewarding more for RPing than for RollPlaying... An example: There's this game I'm playing where we all are the top martial artists of the world. We're attending this kumite (kinda Bloodsport)... Now, I'm (almost) convinced the Big Bad Guy is not so Bad after all and all of his fights are fixed in some way or other (by means of force, cohesion, blackmail, or drugs, dunno). And there's really a Master Plan (for what haven't figured out) behind this plot. Here's a good example in making the players think and RPing. -- Believe me. I originally thought this was going to be just one more beat'em up, but we've done more than beat. ... Of course, this doesn't mean there must be some weird plot behind the main, obvious one... I (my character) can well be wandering off in no direction! Just my input, Ric ---------------------------------------------------------------- GMAST Home Page: http://www.phoenyx.net/gmast/
