Combat and Plot (was: weak characters == really roleplaying)

I agree that without conflict there is no plot. Hoever, combat should be
viewed as a plot element that can be overused (or underused for that matter)
and thus go from a plot driver to a plot killer.

This applies to other plot elements as well. Political intrigue can be a
great plot element and make for a memorable story, but session after session
could be too much.

The exact mix of plot elements that would be considered optimum will differ
with each group, but that's another topic entirely.

Nice post there Alan!

The simple truth is that some folk want to fight, and some folk want to tell
a story.

Rgds,
Michael.

And some folks tell stories about telling stories about fights they'd
had (Well, I did *once*)

Am having some difficulty parsing that last part. Is that good, or
bad?

It comes from the Pyramid Discussion Forums (I think). When a post is
made that causes someone to laugh, the person has the option of
awarding a "Made Laugh Point". Some poeple keep
track of them in their .sigs.

As to whether not this is good or bad, that part is up to you.

I see. Would have said "bad" would be when one /did/ earn a point,
but it's not my scoring system.
