I'm wondering, will the Situation affect anybody's plans to come to
the Gathering next month? Does anybody *have* any plans to
come to the Gathering next month?

Yes, we have plans. In fact, we were going to make the airline
reservations tomorrow.

As it is, we're pausing on that, but still anticipate being there.

My status: I would really like to come, and it's only an 8 hour drive, but I
don't think I can realistically afford the 4-day weekend. (Two days of
driving.)

Depending on timezones, you could manage it without any time off from
work... leave immediately after work Friday, arrive Saturday AM, sleep in
to a reasonable hour, then hit the renfest where you can hook up with the
others. Leave early enough Sunday afternoon to get enough sleep to go to
work.

Packs a lot of driving into the weekend, but I've done it before. As long
as you can manage driving at 2 AM, you're okay.

Where are you coming from?

Nashville, TN. I think I figured out that that would be about an 8-hour
drive, but I could be wrong.

Yahoo Maps says its over nine hours.

Don't know if it'd fit into your budget, but you could fly TWA for $83
round-trip. Considering the price of gas, that might not be much more
expensive than driving. Hopefully the airline situation will have calmed
down enough by then that you won't have to spend two hours in line waiting
to get on the plane.
