(Gather) Gather 2002 Pictures

I haven't put them on a website yet, but there are some pictures.

The longsword demo at the Higgens Armoury Museum. This was a no-flash
picture, and it was rather dark:

Flash picture was better, but if that was redeye reduction mode (it probably
wasn't), I'd hate to see it without:

Three of the four Higgins tourists (Mike, who doesn't like having his picture
taken, is taking the picture):

The Higgins mascot of sorts:

A couple of shots of the funky grill at Fire and Ice, just because it was cool:

Once again, no pictures were taken of anybody dressed funny for the
RenFaire. I can't really explain that.

Perhaps because you forgot your camera in the car?

Actually, I forgot my camera *was* in the car. I'd've taken pictures in the
"dressing room"[1] otherwise, if I hadn't taken it in. (I had an impromptu bag I
sewed up for the other digital camera, which this one would have been lost in,
but I didn't bring it for some reason.)

Mostly it was just that I never got around to it. I don't really like cameras,
when it comes down to it. I don't know why I didn't let Carl The Photographer
take the pictures, now that we have a digital he's not so snooty about.

couple of vans over completely changed clothes, in between the vans. And I
do mean *completely.*

I kept forgetting about it myself. I'm really annoyed that we didn't get
shots at the RenFaire and more shots in general. The digital is perfect
for that kind of thing (lack of focus on the second grill shot aside).

(This is one of the weird things about snapshot takers and hobby
photographers... snapshot takers show people all their photos,
photographers throw away 90% of the pictures they take and never let them
be seen. But when you only take eight pictures, you don't have a lot to
choose from. :)

Perhaps that would be best in the future. :)

Actually, I don't think they removed *everything*, or even almost
everything, since they all seemed to be wearing "long white T-shirts"
tucked into their jeans when they originally piled out of their van.

Well, at least one of them removed and put the T-shirt back on, at least so
far as to have it all bunched up around her neck, apparently for purposes of
removing foundation garments. IIRC she was in the van at the time, though.

I wish *my* stuff was easy enough to change into in the parking lot, though I
could manage to do the aforementioned without taking off a shirt. I'm trying
to figure out at what point we're going to put our stuff on when we go up to the
KC faire next week. We'll get pictures then. Er, *after* it's all on,
thankyewverymuch.

Well, changing in the parking lot _is_ traditional.

Who is who? I've always wondered what you guys look like.... I'm guessing
that the two on the right are Karen and Carl, but that is just a guess.

Other than that, give us some war stories on the Gather!

That's a correct guess. The guy on the left is Scott Kullberg. I can't
recall the name of the shiny guy in the middle.

> Other than that, give us some war stories on the Gather!

You want to hear about my migraine and vomiting at Ann Dupuis' house on
Saturday? (I haven't had a migraine like that in years... rather annoying
timing.) You guys might not come to the next Gathering if I go into
detail there. (Ann's a _really_ nice person, for which I am very
grateful.)

When life slows down a bit (company picnic today, game tomorrow, KC
RenFest next Saturday, church anniversary picnic Sunday, gah...) I'll
write up a travelogue.

Correct. I'm the one in the middle, looking vaguely spaced out.

> Other than that, give us some war stories on the Gather!

The Official Gathering Donut Chain was Dunkin' Donuts this year (Krispy
Kreme, last year).

Friday's Identifying Quote was "Did I mention I got up at 3 am?"

Saturday's quote was "Wasn't that guy in _Lord of the Rings_?"

Sunday's quote was "Just buy the drum already!"

Monday's quote was "You must be Carl. I noticed you're carrying a drum."
(Second place was "We're starting our initial descent into Kansas
City"..."We're starting our final descent into St. Louis" (Wichita doesn't get
*any* respect.))

Booty: Carl and I bought a bunch of games (Worldtree, finally got the main
Aria book, couple of other things I can't remember). Mike bought me a Fat
Dragon(tm). Mike bought Carl a print by Edward P. Beard, Jr., the one that
graced the cover of Magical Medley. Carl bought a drum, of course (I'd take
pictures, but it's in its drum bag. (Maybe I should take pictures anyway, just
to prove I *can* finish projects once in awhile.)). Mike didn't buy a leather
duster vest, from the same place Karen didn't buy a leather cape.

We also didn't get an Official Gathering Souvenir. I was really, really wanting
to find one at Pepi's, but they didn't have a phoenix there. That I could find.
There's one on their "new items" page, though, darnitall. (At least it doesn't
resemble any Phoenyx logo past or present. That would have been way too
annoying.)

Speaking of which (last year's pendants, not being annoying), Lee, we're
going to the KC RenFaire (probably this coming Saturday) and can get you
one of the Ancient Circles critters if they've got a booth again (unlike King
Richard's Faire, the KC faire doesn't list all their participants). Hmm.
Ancientcircles.com doesn't list the KC faire. Bah.
