If we have the Gathering at GenCon, which is looking increasingly unlikely (is *anybody* else going?) I'll kind of miss the dressing-up feature. OTOH, it might be fun to have a masquerade without the constraints of historical accuracy. Meanwhile, in the ongoing saga of sightings of my "couch": http://www.phoenyx.net/gamers/files/mycouch.jpg That's my son climbing up on the pedestal next to the stranger in the off-center couch (and sunburn... this was yesterday (Sunday)... Saturday had been pretty sunny, and there were a lot of sunburns showing). I sort of like my implementation of the couch better: http://www.silverseams.com/renfaire/images/bodice.png -- Karen J. Ah... now I could get into that as well. We're kind of funny about
this... we don't like to wear "fantasy" costumes to faires that are
specifically historical. No matter that many of the other costume wearers
wouldn't know historical accuracy if it bit them.

We've never taken pictures of the actual couch... probably isn't there
anymore anyway.

Yeah, and I'll bet nobody wearing a fox tail knows what "un queue de renard" *means* (well, besides the literal translation). But I still don't think anyone's going to GenCon. Either that, or no one's reading this subtopic... well, no, I see 73 names on the recipient list, so that can't be it. Of course, it could be that everyone's filtering their mail into a Gamers folder that they never check anymore... I'm unlikely to be going to Gencon, since I'm on the wrong side of the Atlantic. I'm going on a trip to USA this summer, and wonder if anyone of you happen to live somewhere along my planned route. I'll start in Phoenix (probably June 18-22), then up to Las Vegas (June 23-27), then via Los Angeles/Santa Monica to San Fransisco (June 30-Juli 5-ish). The primary reason for the trip is a bunch of conferences and reseach oriented meetings, but someone might perhaps have time for a cup of tea/dinner/whatever with one of the "oldtimers" from GMAST-L. /Ola -- Ola Ågren * corps@acc.umu.se * ola@cs.umu.se General Preprocessing Perceptron - How to put an awful lot of "knowledge" in a weighted sum. ---------------------------------------------------------------- GAMERS Home Page: http://www.phoenyx.net/gamers/

Sure... it involved someone paying our way over there, since we can
barely afford to go to GenCon, let alone Europe.

Not quite. It's just that Real World (tm) stuff has gotten me very behind on email. And since the Job Situation (tm) has not changed, it is very unlikely that I will be able to attend the Gather this year. > CDC>We've never taken pictures of the actual couch... probably isn't > there CDC>anymore anyway. > > I've got a sales flyer with a picture in it, but it's such a dark > picture if I hadn't known to look for it I wouldn't have recognized it. Same here. I'll be at GENCON, but I am running 20 hrs worth of games for Eden Studios (3 for Buffy RPG and 2 for All Flesh Must Be Eaten RPG), so don't know what time I'll have available. Unfortunately, in the twenty-some years since I moved from Indy, so has everyone else I knew, so I can't find completely free crash space. And I don't know that the airline I worked for still has anyplace in Indy, either, now that the Emery postal contract is dead. Of course, everybody I knew has bailed from the airline in the five years since *I* left, so that's a moot point anyway. And it wasn't a passenger airline. -- Karen J. MF>Airlines are now just like high-tech. Jobs have very short half-lifes. :) The airline I worked for had a lot of long-timers, up until about the point I quit. Shortly after that, they lost the postal contract (through Emery) and it was rats-fleeing time. It came at a bad time; they'd just gone through two rough certification cycles trying to add passenger (charter, not scheduled) service, plus an unfun physical move, and there was a bad case of burnout going around. -- Karen J.
