That's a common prejudice. My ex-wife grew up in a family of
crafters, so her opinion was, "if you don't create something
you can hold or give as a gift, it's not a 'real' hobby." Her lack
of respect for my hobbies (mom she often urged me to "grow
up" and take up some "real" hobbies) is one of the reasons
she's now my ex.

Sorry, of course.

Now I can make a small joke at your expense. :-)

You missed a great opportunity.  One of the coolest (to me)
gaming accessories I've seen is a scale model Beau Geste-style
fort with removable sections.  Make a nice gift, eh?

And think of the possibilities for your hobby to pay for itself
if you could have gotten her to make stuff to sell at cons...
