This is probably a pretty self-selected list, but has anyone here ever *not* gamemastered? And in your groups, have all your players GMed at least once (in your group or elsewhere)? In our group, I've GMed (once upon a time), Bill has with his other group but not with us, and Chris is a total newb - this is his very first game as a player. -- Karen J. I don't have a regular group, the nearest thing is the assortment of 20-odd people that meet once a year at Gypsycon. Last game I ran there, four out of the five players are or have GMed (two at the same weekend), and I don't know about the 5th. Last regular group I was in (in which I was a player), both other players have GMed. I don't know about all the online players, there are at least 3 GMs in Kalyr. ---------------------------------------------------------------- GAMERS Home Page: http://www.phoenyx.net/gamers/

I GM'd face to face over a decade ago, and even my online GMing is a few years gone, now. I think of myself as a mediocre GM, at best. Of the assorted folks I've gamed with lately, all have run games at one time or another, though most not with me. None of them has played in a game of mine. Somewhat to my surprise, no.
In the "infamy" group, we've got one guy who has adminned some on-line
IRC-based sim-like games but doesn't any more, and one guy who doesn't
GM at all (though he's fairly new to role-playing as opposed to hack and
slash, and I have hopes of getting him started) - as well as several of
the better GMs I know.
In the Cambridge ("wednesday") group, there are three people who don't
GM at all as well as three good GMs. They have some overlap with the
"isomorph" group, which also includes one habitual GM and one other who
doesn't GM at all.
I worry slightly that some of the non-GMs may feel a bit intimidated by
the others who clearly know just what they're doing (one of the
Cambridge group is Phil Masters, for example). They generally say that
they're happy to keep playing and not GMing, though. Since when there's
a problem in each group it tends to be too many people wanting to run
games, rather than too few GMs, there's not much pressure on them to
start.

> And in your groups, have all your players GMed at least once (in your > group or elsewhere)? I have one player who as never GMed. Interestingly, he is my favorite player -- he always comes up with great characters which he plays wonderfully. He's talked about wanting to run a game, but he's kind of a perfectionist and I think that keeps the game from ever getting off the ground. Two other players have GMed but they have a strong preference for playing over GMing. One of those players tells me that she lacks the imagination, organization, and communication skills to be a good GM. However, she's selling herself short. -- Maurice Forrester maurice@bryzoan.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- GAMERS Home Page: http://www.phoenyx.net/gamers/
> And in your groups, have all your players GMed at least once (in > your > group or elsewhere)? In my current game, I have two players who I know have GMed. Another player has GMed at conventions, but I don't know if he's run regular games -- if he has, it's been a few years, he was sole caregiver for a parent with dementia. One player has talked about GMing, but anything she's "going to run" that I've been aware of has never managed to get started. The last player just joined recently, and I don't know. My problem is that any campaign I seem to lose steam on campaigns I run fairly early on. I start out with a good idea for a game world, and the players are enthusiastic, but I just seem to lose interest in keeping the scenarios going. Most times I don't even finish running the scenario I started out with. It's frustrating as hell.
