Kalyr is set in my original fantasy world of Kalyr, and focuses on the struggle between the ancient and decadent kandar civilisation, and their rebellious human slaves. It features psionics, arcane technology, strange alien races, mystery and intrigue. Influences include Gene Wolfe & Jack Vance, but don't let that put you off!

Kalyr - 35 : The search

"Bloody Martyrs!" swears Jaldaric. "Ryzar, Duplar! Missiles!"

Subject: Kalyr - 35 : The search

The search begins. Reylorna and Ryzar closest to the wall, then
Verthes, Kylar, Duplar, Dharak, and finally Jorg furthest out. The
group sweep a broad arc a quarter of the way round the castle.

They find nothing.

Without warning, there is a sound from the forest. Dharak sees it
first, a reddish-brown blur in the trees. Once it's out in the open,
it becomes clearly visible to all.

Just about the largest bull ulsoghir anyone has seen comes charging
out of the forest, heading straight towards the searcher on the end
the line, Jorg.

[Jorg]

Jorg braces himself with his shield resting against the ground and sword
poised to plunge into the neck of the beast.

(Assuming, that is, that an ulsoghir is something like a boar, both in size
and shape. If it's 14 feet tall, getting out of the way might be more
appropriate.)

[OK, Jorg will stick with his matador plan.]

[Ryzar]

"By the Eternal Flame!" Ryzar mumbles, catching sight of the shaggy beast.
Quickly, he sheaths his short sword, draws his dartgun, and rushes towards Jorg
-- moving slightly away from the line of march, so as to be able to get a clear
shot at the beast.
The very moment that it seems safe to do so, Ryzar will halt, assume a
two-handed aiming stance, and fire three, quick shots at the large beast.
(OOC: I think I switched clips to the plain darts, and not the
incendiaries...)

Having given the alert, Jaldaric takes three wide strides out to the side,
hoping to be able to take the beast in the side as it passes him. He doesn't
bother drawing his parrying dagger for use of half-a-ton of angry pot-roast.

[Duplar]

Duplar draws his lightning wand and checks it is on its more potent setting.

Mindful of the possible area of effect he will only fire on the beast if he
can get a good angle. The would be no point in taking out one of the party
as well or by mistake.

[Reylorna]

She freezes mometarily, and then concentration grips her features. She
knows what she is up against and doesn't think that she can take it
alone, but she is useless in hand to hand combat. So she attempts to
distract it by trying to make it fall asleep.
