Kalyr is set in my original fantasy world of Kalyr, and focuses on the struggle between the ancient and decadent kandar civilisation, and their rebellious human slaves. It features psionics, arcane technology, strange alien races, mystery and intrigue. Influences include Gene Wolfe & Jack Vance, but don't let that put you off!

Kalyr - 37a : Funeral Pyre

[Duplar and whoever helps]

Since the corpse will not burn too well on it's own, it takes Duplar
and Kylar a bit of time to gather enough dry branches for a decent
fire. They also have to drag the body clear of the trees, so as not
to risk burning down the forest.

"Don't suppose that magic wand of yours can start fires?", Kylar says,
pulling out a tinder-box. It takes him a few tries, but eventually
the wood starts to burn.

The acrid smell of the burning creature's flesh is just about the
foulest thing Duplar has ever smelled.

Kalyr - 37a : Funeral Pyre

[Duplar]

"Under certain circumstances a wand can cuase a fire. However, they have a
very limited number of charges and once all are used - well you can recylce
the wand itself if you are lucky, but we generally discard them and make
new.

"There is a rumour that rebuilt wands can blow up in your face when used.
I'm not sure of the truth of the claim, but it is not the sort of risk I
want to take.

"The tinder-box is a much better idea."

"Ugh! What a stink! Let's get away before the smoke means we reek of
this ourselves."

OOC: Sorry, guys! Between the Christmas Holidays, and a mid-January wedding
in the family, I'm afraid I've been super-lax in this game...

Since the death of the Beast, Ryzar has been grimly silent; attending to
the task of helping to build a pyre, and incinerating the Kolderspawned
creature, without a word.
Now that the Beast is well on it's way to becoming ashes, Ryzar steps
away from the fire, and looks up at the alien stars in the sky, taking a
deep breath of fresh air.
"The night is now upon us." Ryzar says, finally, to the few who stayed
to destroy the Beast, "This is a nightmare best forgotten. Let us seek the
warmth and shelter of the castle. It was a long day's journey here, and a
wearying battle with that Kolderspawned Beast. We should welcome some
rest."
Ryzar walks towards the castle, headed for the "main hall".
