Kalyr is set in my original fantasy world of Kalyr, and focuses on the struggle between the ancient and decadent kandar civilisation, and their rebellious human slaves. It features psionics, arcane technology, strange alien races, mystery and intrigue. Influences include Gene Wolfe & Jack Vance, but don't let that put you off!

Kalyr [OOC] Reason for hiatus

Apologies for the existing list members for lack of recent postings.
As you might know by now, the Role-Playing games forum on Compuserve
where this game originally started four years ago has been
repositioned by it's owner as a porn site.  (Yes, read it again.  That
*was* what I wrote).

I am directing my energies to trying to salvage what I can from this
train-wreck.  Only once the dust has settled can I really get the game
moving again.

Good luck! My apoplexy hasn't worn off yet, so anything I 
say is probably too strong for a moderated list. But not 
for ARPG of course

I've already got into an argument with Ily (not a good idea).  We've
just about made up now, but I realise how things said in anger can
easily destroy friendships made over the years.

I'm hoping to get the whole game restarted as soon as I can persuade
all the KLR players to join this list - At the moment two people are
still not willing to move to a list outside of compuserve.

   Oh, wait, you're not talking about me -- I dropped CompuStupid many, many
years ago.  Uh...never mind.  Just pretend Ryzar is mumbling to himself, as
he tends to the wounded.  Nothing happening here....

Vince, the bottleneck is *my* time.  I spend the whole day yesterday
trying to salvage games (mine and others), repair broken friendships,
etc.

Yes I know you did.  There are people agitating for a move to another
forum, because they prefer the environment and tools they're used to.
They're hard to persuade.

I didn't stay with compuserve because I thought their technology was
wonderful; I stayed because RPGAMES had a great community spirit.

[I apologise again for the hiatus in the existing Kalyr game - I will
try and get some IC threads going in the existing game today]

Shame that. I sent a pretty stoppy email to Nightshift, but 
haven't had an answer. That, along with the business about 
all dissension and discussion of this being suppressed in 
Section 1, is really unpleasant; it indicates the (A)RPG 
staff becoming as much Big Brother as CIS themselves.

We were set up from the word go. They wanted rid of 
roleplayers in favour of smut because they still think The 
Internet == sex and == big money for the vendors of such. Fools!

Have they specifically expressed that unwillingness, or have you just not
received a reply from them?  (BTW, in case you don't recognize my True Name
here, my main CompuServe user ID is 110363,3405.  I don't use CompuServe
for E-mail if I can help it.)

I haven't had a reply from two players, and specific objections from
two others.

I have one player meeping about the lack of threading, and another
who's very reluctant to move from an environment he knows.  (His
particular problem is that he's deaf-blind and relies on a
braille-interface to participate.  He has trouble coping with
extensive quoting and suchlike.  I'm sure we can cope with this by a
combination of subtopics and player disclipline, but he still needs
persuading.

Ironically, both have been players and lurkers in this list in the
past :(
