"You mind-people try and reach Jathren", Kalyr says, "Jal, Jorg and I will search the outbuildings. Ready you two?". Remembering how they linked minds to defeat the alien creature, Reylorna attempts to join minds with the others; the first mind-link collapses as soon as it forms, leaving her with a tremendous headache. The second attempt is more successful. With the combined power of five minds, she can reach out to much greater distances, and manages to locate Jathren's mind. *what? who?*, he thinks, rather taken by surprise. * * * * * The other three find the stables barred and bolted from inside. Looking through cracks between the wooden planks Jal can see some animals moving about inside, several zarandar, and what looks to be a yakka. "Let's break down the door, only way we'll get in", says Kylar, "Jorg, are you ready?". He glances at Jal, as if giving him a last chance before raising objections. "I'll get an axe from the smithy", the big man replies. -- Tim Hall, timjh (at) compuserve.com * http://www.kalyr.com "Divide by cucumber error: Please reinstall universe and reboot"
[Reylorna] "It's Reylorna with some help. Are you better?" After pausing for the answer she adds "we need to get word to the Academy of the Mind of what we have found here. We were hoping you would be well enough for travel and would carry our message." She waits for the other minds in the link to add their thoughts so she can be sure she is saying what the group mind wishes. --Sean

>"All right by me," he comments, "I'd rather ride than walk". Jorg returns with a large sledgehammer, with which he proceeds to demolish the barred door in no time at all. It had indeed been barred from the inside. The animals inside raise a lot of commotion; frightened zarandar making a racket of trumpeting noises. It will take a while to calm them down. All the animals seem to have been fed and watered recently; possibly even this morning. -- Tim Hall, timjh (at) compuserve.com * http://www.kalyr.com "Divide by cucumber error: Please reinstall universe and reboot"
Having established a link Duplar makes his report (or asks Reylorna to pass it on if he cannot talk directly). "The Citadel hasn't quite fallen, Boss, but we are the garrison! "There are few a survivors from the original Accademy group, but we are talking about support staff here, there is no-one left to defend the place. "As far as we can tell they were taken out buy some form of mental domination technique. The attacked needed only line of sight on a warrior in the Citadel to cause him to turn on other folk here. All the actual damage was inflicted by themselvesd on eachother. "The winning tactic we used was shear weight of numbers and looking for it mentally. Once we knew where it was half of us could mob it while the other half subdued the single party member it dominated. "If you can find it you can kill it, but if it can see you then it will take control of one of you. "I don't want to move out until we have someone in a fit state to leave in charge here. "If you can get here easilly then here might be safer than in the wilderness, but perhaps not much. "We have some ideas as to the significance of the towers, but no proof."
*It wiped them out, then*, Jathren replies weakly >"If you can find it you can kill it, but if it can see you then it will take >control of one of you. *Was there only one of them?* he replies mentally, *What the hell was it? [Reylorna] As long as she has agreement from the minds helping her with the link, she will break it and allow them to searching to discover this communicating device. --Sean
The mental concert collapses as Reylorna breaks the link. "The chapel is right at the top of the tower", Verthes says. He leads the way. Heavy curtains block the windows, so the room is dark until someone opens one of the curtains to admit enough light to see by. The light reveals that the chapel is undisturbed, no damage, no signs of violence, and no bodies. At the centre stands an empty pedestal. In one corner stands a plain wooden table on which stands a large polished wooden box. The chapel takes up about three-quarters of the width of the tower; a door on the opposite side leads to what must be a second, smaller room. The polished wooden box is not locked. It contains a featureless grey 12-sided object the size of a man's head. Duplar recognises what it is at once. -- Tim Hall - http://www.kalyr.com - ICQ# 74213108 "It's a fine line between clever and stupid" - Spinal Tap

[ooc] Vacation? Nope - I've been working! Well - I've been sitting at my desk a lot anyway. However, the final stint - securing the _last_ backup of my database finished 04:35am yesterday so things will be very different on Monday. Will it be more work or less without having to support the database myself? Hmm... Anyway, I'll get a move posted shortly. -----Original Message----- From: Hugh FosterTo: kalyr@phoenyx.net Date: 15 July 2000 22:04 Subject: Re: Kalyr 46b - The Chapel ><< I hear you, but waiting on all those on vacation.. >> > >Seems to be everyone bar you and me > >-- > >Hugh Foster 100326,446 >Internet: hugh_foster@compuserve.com >http://www.gamestruth.com/Hugh/ > >Sat, 15 Jul 2000 19:46 >Virtual Access 5.50 build 311 under Win98 >

He lays his hand on the door and concentrates, trying to get some
impresion of this Ukarlyn, whom he assumes to have been a priest. If
he can get a good enough feel for the man, he hopes he can share it
with Reylorna, helping her locate him -- if he's still alive.
