Kalyr is set in my original fantasy world of Kalyr, and focuses on the struggle between the ancient and decadent kandar civilisation, and their rebellious human slaves. It features psionics, arcane technology, strange alien races, mystery and intrigue. Influences include Gene Wolfe & Jack Vance, but don't let that put you off!

Kalyr FW: 53 - Into the village

A glimer of hope comes across Salars face as he sees Kander in the crowd,
All of a sudden he breaks away and sprints towards the kendar shouting
"I seek assilum, I am yours to command until I repay my dept"

"Because they're better than that; they're not murderers of helpless,
vanquished foes," puts in Jal with slight reproof. "Not even the kandar
do that; well, not most of them."

Salar attempts to break away, but the two human warriors prevent him
from getting very far.

Salar recognises the kandar; he's a legion officer named Kylar d'n
Randar, occasional worshipper at the Kardak temple in Calbeyn.

Kylar seems to recognise Salar as well.

"Truly you are a knight of knights", he says, "Willing to take on an
entire _Tavinol_ of men single-handed!".

The teacher's mouth screws up as if he's bitten into something sour. He peers
over his shoulder at Kylar.

"Friend of yours?" he asks -- in Mannish. (Might as well let this high-born
lowlife to go right on underestimating me, he thinks. No speakee Filgan.)

[OOC]:
Still waiting for a description of Salar, and for an Emotion Sense "first
impression."

Also, since the PCs now include someone who doesn't speak Filgan (Ryzar) and
someone who doesn't speak Mannish (Salar), we need to make sure to specify what
language we're speaking.

Tim,

Standing 5'7" and slightly built, Jal wouldn't normally attract
attention. However, his neatly arranged dark
brown hair and clear, pale blue eyes somehow attract the eye, and his
smile, movement and especially
speech draw people's attention and interest almost against their will.

His dress is always rather showy, though not foppish or expensive; he
does marvels with a limited
wardrobe. Normally his outfit consists of a scarlet tunic, broidered
with rather fanciful knot-work, dark
russet breeches and soft boots of a deep, rich brown leather - a
present from an (ahem) lady admirer. A
large, wide-brimmed hat shades his face from sun and - especially -
rain.

When the going is, or looks, sticky, he'll wear the nearest thing he
has to armour; a sleeveless black leather
jerkin, sewn with stamped metal shapes of exquisite design. A pair of
soft leather gauntlets with metal
lamellae sewn to the backs are always tucked through his belt, and he
always makes a point of trying to don
these before fighting anyone.

His fighting style is the Haeton form, a two-weapon form practised
exclusively hy humans, wherein the long
weapon is held outstretched and (en garde) the parrying weapon rests
transversely across the right arm. It's
a very effective weaponform.

(Jal currently is wearing his armour, his gloves are off, and his
blades are sheathed. He's a bit travelstained. Despite that he looks
pretty relaxed. But then, he's a good actor!)

Kalyr 53 - Into the village

[Dharak]
The human newcomer standing closest to Salar is of average height for his
race, clad in a reddish-brown cloak, olive drab trousers, and a dull brown
leather helmet, cuirass, and boots -- all of which looks a bit the worse
for wear. His skin is medium brown with a ruddy gold undertone; short black
dreadlocks protrude from under his helmet. In his gloved right hand, he
holds a polished hardwood walking stick.

Though his head is cowled against the drizzle, his dark brown eyes flash
with defiance as he glowers at the knight, his goateed mouth and chin
twisted in ... could that be contempt? Clearly, this bedraggled ruffian
does not know his place.

[OOC]
Happy Holidays everyone.

Reylorna dresses in a long gray-white robe that can have the hood (cowl)
pulled up, as it is right now under the fall of rain and open toed sandals.
The robe is loose about her form, only to be belted in at the waist with a
dark grey belt. On the right side of the belt is a small pouch, and on the
left is her sheathed dagger. Her long blonde hair is usually worn loose
with a few errant strands wandering into her face. Her pale blue eyes peer
from behind this fringe giving the impression of shyness, which for the most
part seems to be true. She still hasn't spoken, just watched and listened
to the events as they have progressed.

where you have the rest of the data on the Dramatis Personae of your
Game(s)? Huh, huh? That way, whenever someone gets to wondering "What does

Well, that's my tuppence, anyway ^_^

   Ryzar:
Ryzar is a slender 5-foot-11. While he may only weigh-in at 145, his
slender physique is trim and muscular, albeit in a ropey, "runner" sort of
way.
Ryzar has an "outdoorsman's" tan, on his otherwise rather pale skin. He
goes clean-shaven -- his almost-boyish face seeming to need infrequent
shearings. His hair is raven black, and cut in a
short-on-the-sides-bushy-on-top style.  His eyes -- large, expressive eyes;
"doe-eyes" -- are also intense pools of black (iris color, that is).
In dressage, Ryzar prefers simple tunics and trousers, usually in greens
and browns -- but he considers white to be "dress-up colors". Ryzar wears
utilitarian boots that are good for both riding or walking. His armour is
brown-colored studded leather hauberk, with green-dyed padded cloth arms and
leggings. Atop his head he wears a conical hard leather helm, from the
pointed top of which erupts a long stream of glossy black hair, which Ryzar
has called "a Horsetail" (whatever a "horse" is...)
In equippage, Ryzar lugs around a leather backpack, in which he seems to
have all his worldly belongings -- including a carefully monitored supply of
bandages and healing herbals; for amoung his skills, Ryzar claims some
ability at, what he calls, "Battlefield Healing". He also keeps a wooden
flute in there, with which he occassionally plays strange, alien sounding
songs.
Ryzar is armed with a heavy, wide bladed shortsword -- it looks almost
like what you would have, if a Broadsword's blade were snapped in half, and
you ground a point onto the lower half. He also carries, in a special

calls a "dartgun".

Ryzar watches as Kylar and the -- man -- the unknown Kandar, shout back
and forth at each other, in the language that Ryzar has assumed is their --
that is, the Kandar -- native tongue. Ryzar takes in the fact that the
unknown Kandar is being held in restraint by the villager Humans, as well as
the non-commital look on Kylar's face.
Turning to Duplar -- the other Kandar in this little group -- Ryzar
quietly asks a question.
"Duplar," Ryzar says in a voice that doesn't carry more than a handful of
feet, "What is going on here? That, that man, over there..." Ryzar
carefully points at the unknown Kandar, so as not to draw attention, "...is
being held prisoner by these people, and now Kylar is talking with him. I
know that Kylar is an Officer in your Legions -- do these people want Kylar
to stand in judgement of that Kandar criminal?"

[Ryzar's call as to whether Jal is close enough to hear; but if so:]

> to stand in judgement of that Kandar criminal?"

"Hardly," answers Jal, as quietly, but with some bitterness. "The Kandar
people as a whole, including the authorities, would not regard a band of
knights riding through here with flame and the sword as a crime. More like
pest control. Not least for that reason, these people are very unlikely to
acknowledge Kylar's authority on anything. Well, unless they try and fight
him."

"No, he's trying to negotiate a parole, through Kylar, to join our group
arrayed against what we have apparently managed to convince them are a common
enemy."

"And you give your word that your fellow knights will not attack
again, and leave us in peace, as we leave your kandar farms and
villages in peace?", replies one of Salar's human captors.

"I cannot speak for the knights, but amongst our party are several who
belong to organisations with a great deal of influence in the city of
Calbeyn", Kylar says before Salar can speak, "The knights can be leant
on if needed, I'm sure".

As for Kylar's sword, it occurs to Jal that it's not the type of sword
that would normally be carried by a soldier; the legions prefer their
weaponry simple, unornamented and function. This one looked rather
more finely-crafted than that.

[The sword is currently sheathed, so Salar can't see it]

The list doesn't support attachments; I nearly got lobbed off a year or

But if Tim can create a cast page on the site, some pix would be grand.
Unfortunately I can't draw. Wish there were a "pictures of your

Yeah, that WAS my intent -- that Ryzar was speaking only loud
enough to be heard by anyone in our little group. As best I understand it,
at the moment we're all standing in a close group, having just been
"escorted" into the village. Luckily, we don't have to worry about any
surprise Mortar attacks ^_^
Of course, one good Fireball "spell", or a decent sized Molotov
grenade..... ^_~

[Or vice versa, of course; we're nicely in range to slap some magical
doom all over their village. The fact they're talking not shooting
means we trust each other. I hope! :)]

Jal stifles a chuckle at that.

Kalyr FW: 53 - Into the village

>> As for Kylar's sword, it occurs to Jal that it's not the type of
sword
that would normally be carried by a soldier; the legions prefer their
weaponry simple, unornamented and function. This one looked rather
more finely-crafted than that. <<

Jal files this information away for future reference. He makes no
comment, but is preapred to back the play, whichever way it goes.
