I'm recruiting some new players! While the existing party try to get some sense out of that vordral, and hopefully solve the mystery of the towers, I'm looking to start off some new PCs back at the city of Calbeyn. I've already got one PC just about ready to go, and could do with a few more. See www.phoenyx.net/kalyr for more information about the game, and www.kalyr.com/charact.htm for information on character generation. Just about any character type for a city-based game will be appropriate. -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap

Money left: 700 Character Story: Talgrath's parents were named Gath and Sola. Gath, his father, had the gift of magic. Gath was as strong with it as many of the more tutored Kandar, many of the masters at the academy viewed him as a threat, so instead of risking assasination, he left. He traveled about the wilderness, never staying anywhere too long, that is, until he met Sola. Her bright blonde hair and deep green eyes entranced him, and he fell in love. He stayed in the village for two years, courting her, before they were finally wed. They decided to start a small farm just a few miles from Calbeyn. Talgrath was their first child. He was born at dusk, just as the stars were coming out. He quickly grew, and it was obvious he wasn't built like his father, who was tall, but thin. At age five, his parents had another child, who they named Krysta. As the family adjusted, Gath decided to try and teach Talgrath magic. As Gath showed him some of the things magic could do, then asked Talgrath to try. Talgrath tried and though he could do a few minor things with real concentration, it was obvious he didn't have the strength of mind. His father also taught him how to read and write, which Talgrath excelled at, to the delight of both mother and father. As he grew, he began to help out on the farm more and more and by age 16 he outweighed his father and was taller than him in fact. Stringy muscles covered his frame. However, things were about to take a turn for the worse. One night, as Talgrath was out and about in the wilderness, trying to hunt down some extra meat, there was a knock at the door of the cottage. His father opened it to see a small group of Kandar mages at his door. "Well well well," said one, "I believe we have found our rogue human magician, and his family." "I...I..," was all that Gath could stutter. "You shouldn't have run human. And you shouldn't have moved so close, we've let you be all these years because the council deemed you no threat. But that has changed," said another "You've been teaching your children magic have you not?" questioned the third. "Yes, but they didn't understand it," Gath said with terror. "Oh, but the little girl there has caught on, though you don't realize it," said the third. "No....no please!" Gath shouted. "Too late now fool! Die now, and your family as well!" shouted the first. With this the Kandar began to cast, finishing with a florish, bringing bright balls of fire to their hands. Then tossing them into the cottage. A mere hour later, Talgrath returned to find his home destroyed, burnt to cinders. Among it he found the bones of his parents and his young sister. "This is not the work of nature," he said with a whisper, "only magicians could have done this." With nothing left for him, he decided to head to Calbeyn, with only his bow and a determination to make something of himself, and if possible, to avenge his slain parents. In the years since, he has become a well known mercenary. He's had many adventures and has become somewhat skilled in many things, but has never really mastered anything except combat with the use of bow or large swords. He's known among mercenaries to stick to the job, he never wavers once hired, truly following the code of the mercenary. He doesn't have many friends, and in truth, doesn't desire any. However if he is asked to help someone, more often than not he will. His reputation has also made him confident in his abilities to the point where he believes he is almost infallible. Years of fighting has toughened him, so that he rarely feels pain, though he has many scars. In particular is a large slash scar across his back, from being attacked by an assasin trying to kill a Kandar noble he was guarding. Though he rarely remembers his family much anymore, he still has a burning desire to find and kill whoever it was that slew his family and destroyed his home.

Quick note for those interested in sending me new characters, please send them to tim@kalyr.com - It would also help me if you put the word 'Kalyr' in the subject line somewhere. After I have approved the character, you may post a 'public' version to the list, minus game statistics and dark secrets. Also, can we have a roll-call of players in the existing thread; I know it's August and people are away on holiday, but things have got awfully quiet..... -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap

Heyo!
Vince, a.k.a. Ryzar of Lormt, reporting in!
It MAY be folks off on vacation, there, Tim, but I think it's mostly
that we're all waiting for the Vordral to accept or reject our offer for him
to join us and act as guide, if we'll "remove" his enemies. At least, I
know that that is what I'VE been waiting on ^_^

OK, here's the character. I wasn't sure whether you would allow the full 60

have 20 points available for improvements.

Jathren was raised in the Anthill of Calbeyn by a woman who claimed to
be his aunt. "Aunt Vorya" was a strange woman, quite likely insane,
who saw that Jathren leaned to distrust all kandar and wizards, but
also taught him to read and write.
When Jathren was about 12 he teleported about 18" to escape a pot of
boiling water which was about to fall on him. Aunt Vorya proceeded to
get him all the works of wizardry she could find. Though mostly
written for the gullible, Jathren used the techniques to develop his
abilities along extremely idiosyncratic lines. Using his talents, he
became a highly effective thief.
Not too long ago one of the criminal guilds in Calbeyn learned of
Jathren's abilities. They tried to persuade Jathren to work for them,
and when that failed ended up killing his aunt and destroying his
home.
Jathren is now on the run, trying to find a new position for himself.

Two points come immediately to my mind, here....
1. I thought we already HAD someone named Jathren with us? Is this the
same person/character?
2. Why the hell am I getting to see all this? I could have sworn that
Tim sent out a general email that Characters should be sent to HIM,
directly, and not to the general Kalyr mail-server!
Good thing I'm not a Karazthani(sp?) -- I'd want to dissect this Human,
to see where all his wonderful Powers come from......
