[Dharak] "Sounds to me like we've found our guide," he says, withdrawing from Zhavor's mind. "If you don't mind translating, brother, let's have him take us there." He unbinds the creature's hands. "Friend," he says in Old Kandar, smiling. >"Hurvag you bad towards", the vordral asks again, still in broken old >kandar. People of strangeness cave of long roundness engines of >strangeness within!. [Reylorna] "Excellent!" She exlaims when they come to an agreement. "I knew we could benefit from cooperation." Clearly the human apprentice is not put off by the creature's race and had hoped for a chance to work together all along. --Pandemonium

"Right!" the young man says, slapping his gauntletted hands together
with a loud report, "Let us seek the Kolder in their foul lair, and discover
what evil and deciept they plan!"

Led by the vordral, the party advance up the hill along the line of ancient towers. Each tower is a little shorter than it's predecessor, although the tops of the towers are exactly level with one another. After the final tower, the line ends in a jumble of rocks surrounded by trees. Whether the rocks are natural or part of some ancient collapsed structure, no one can tell. "Cave of long roundness move tree behind", says the vordral. He leads the party along what now appears to be a trail of some sort leading into the rocks. The trail ends at the mouth of a tunnel leading in to the rocks. It's not a natural cave, but shows signs of being dug very recently. -- Tim Hall http://www.kalyr.com
[Dharak] He tilts up the brim of his leather helmet and brushes aside a stray dreadlock to peer at the opening. With a dismissive shrug, he mutters, "Well, it's clearly unguarded. I say we just walk right in." The softness of his voice and his firm grip on his crossbow strongly suggest that he's being facetious. ____________________Reply Separator____________________ Subject: Re: Kalyr 58 - A guide to the Cave of Long Roundness Author:Date: 08/17/2001 7:34 AM Led by the vordral, the party advance up the hill along the line of ancient towers. "No. I'll go in first, to scout the way." says the slender, 5-foot-11,
145-pound Ryzar, "Besides, I have a small weapon that is easy to use in
close quarters." the young Borderer says, drawing his bronze dartgun --
checking the weapon to make sure it is loaded with solid-tip darts.
"I'll call you, Mistress..." Ryzar taps the side of his head, and looks
towards Reylorna, "Once I'm safely inside."
Ryzar shucks his backpack, drops to his knees and -- with primed
dartgun in his right hand -- crawls cautiously into the crude excavation.

[OOC: Well, Tim's on-line Archives can be accessed from

Also, I, myself, have kept a copy of every post by everyone since I
re-joined the PBeM game -- back when we first entered the Karazthani keep,
and fought the telepathic killer-critter]
After crawling into the tunnel for just a few feet, the dimly reflected
light from outside gets even dimmer.
"Oops. I forgot about how dark tunnels can get!" Ryzar calls quietly
over his shoulder, to the others outside, "Someone hand me a torch."

Ryzar calls quietly >over his shoulder, to the others outside, "Someone hand me a torch." "Here" Kylar's hand passes the glowing green thing to Ryzar. The brave (or is it foolhardy) borderer proceeds about thirty yards down a narrow passage until it opens out into a much larger space. A huge number of small flying creatures flit about in the darkness, making a chittering sound. From the dim green glow of the strange torch he can just about make out the walls; the arched roof is about twenty feet above. This is no natural cave, it's clearly a man-made structure. Unless of course it was built by the Kolder. -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap
[Duplar] Before proceeding into the cave, Duplar examines the edge and looks out along the line of pylons to see if he can gain any clue as to the function of the assembly. Can he tell where the line of pylons goes to from up here? Are there any carvings or markings?
>Duplar examines the edge and looks out >along the line of pylons to see if he can gain any clue as to the function >of the assembly. The tops are level with each other, although the bases are at different levels due to the undulation of the ground. It seems to Duplar that they're a bit like piers of a viaduct, supporting a perfectly level road. >Can he tell where the line of pylons goes to from up here? They head back, on a slight curve, in the general direction of Calbeyn. >Are there any carvings or markings? Centuries of erosion and growth of moss and lichen have obscured just about anything, but after searching, Duplar does find some writing in the Old Kandar script - it reads 'Pylon 487, sector CLB-CGT' -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap
[Duplar] "Folk, I just thought you might like to know about these carvings. "It would seem that a long time ago this chain of pylons lead to Calbeyn, and my guess is it took 487 of them to get there. "I further suspect that once upon a time this place lead to somewhere which abbreviates to 'CGT'. CGT may be a place, or it may be that the 'GT' stands for 'Gate'." [OOC: what was the name of the place Duplar contacted with the dodecahedral device he used at the Calbeyn Guild?] "Now just what moved along these links... well I have no idea. It could have been people, energy or even water." [OOC: As a player I'm betting on this being the ruins of some form of transport system, but that is only because I know the GM quite well. Duplar has no idea, yet.]

"As long as we are quiet, and cautious in our movements," Ryzar says
quietly, "and we don't go sticking these light-stick-thingies too high up
near the roof -- we shouldn't disturb the bats. As for the cave floor..."
Ryzar shrugs resignedly, "...just be careful of slippery footing, and
treacherous irregularities that may be buried beneath the guano.
"But, it can't be THAT treacherous, can it? I mean, these Vordral
folks come and go here all the time, yes?"
Ryzar flashes a quick smile, "However, when we leave here, later, let's
not forget to clean our boots -- this stuff CAN'T be good for our shoe
leather!"
Holding the lightstick in one hand, and his dartgun in the other, Ryzar
starts to slowly make his way down the long, round, and un-naturally
straight tunnel.

Everyone manages to keep their footing and nobody falls face-first into the guano, though Duplar does disturb the bats at one point. The guano thins out as the party progress deeper into the cavern; there are tracks that can be followed, booted feet of boots of a rather higher quality that likely for vordral. At intervals there are smaller tunnels leading at right angles away to the left. Jaldaric is the first to notice a humming noise coming from ahead, though Ryzar and Duplar notice it too. -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap
