Rotemdol is nervous, but trying not to show it, due to the fact that a wizard was assassinated, especially since they caught the assassin and tortured her] Rotemdol replies, "The academy of the mind is sure to investigate and start reading people mind. I heard they have been doing it at the gates. You know how I feel about that". [ooc: Banjo knows Rotemdol is very touchy on that subject]. " However I don't think they are keen enough to get into the Ant Hill and if they do ..." Rotemdol pauses to drink. "In any case I should touch with some old friends, haven't been there for a while, it would not do for my reputation to slip"

[Zul] Damn wig. Should've known such a cheap thing would itch. Barely even counted as a disguise; still, they might have heard of "that crazy redhead" over at the Dragon, and she was going there to work, not to raise hell. Soraya had an appointment there at dusk, but she didn't know the man that well, and had asked her Kid Sister to watch her back. He supposedly wanted to take in a show before, but who knows what was really on his mind? Zul wanted to get there early, too. With all these killings and wizardly goings-on lately, she was beginning to think that Filgeth might be about to catch up with her. She'd heard there was this guy, Arliss or something, over at the Dragon who might be able to give her the skinny -- for a price. So when she rolled out of bed that morning, Zul had decided to pin up her orange-red tresses and stroll around town in her "new" wig of straight, shoulder-length dark brown hair with its razor-sharp bangs. She thought the wig looked damn fine, even striking, in contrast with her pale skin and bright blue eyes -- especially when she fastened her long, maroon leather coat (making sure to conceal her nirvork and numerous knives). But the itching was starting to drive her batty. She wasn't scratching now, though. Didn't want to call attention to herself as she shadowed the two knights of Kardak. These guys are always good for a laugh, she thought. Sooner or later, they'll start in on some poor schlub, and I'll get to amble over and dump them on their aristocratic asses for their trouble. She suppressed a smile. I'm not on duty yet, she thought. Still plenty of time for recreation. Hey, here comes a likely target, she thinks as a slight, non-descript, raggedy-looking kid comes up the street. Come on guys, she urges them, inwardly. He's scrawny enough even for a couple of perfumed fops like you. Slap him around a little. I'm beggin' over here. ____________________Reply Separator____________________ Subject: Kalyr 59 - Meanwhile, back in Calbeyn Author: TimDate: 09/03/2001 3:55 PM Calbeyn seems to have calmed down now. [ooc] Hi Do we know anything about this Zul character? I assume we will know about anyone confident enough to take on two knights of Kardak with a nirvork (unless he/she/it is crazy but even then). I mean you have to go through the armor somehow. Who is "that crazy redhead" we might have heard about (Rotemdol is sittting in the Dragon now)?

[Rotemdol] People come to see Rotem preforming, and many come back, not because of the amazing skill, but because the aura of danger involved. While many jagglers work with balls, clubs and burning clubs few will work with real weapons. Rotemdol does. He has a very nice collection of knifes and other short and pointy weapons. He is also willing to work with weapons that belong to the people watching (to show that he is not cheating though by now no one thinks he is cheating). The act includes juggling knifes, knife throwing demonstration, some nirvork demonstration including nirvork throwing. His assitant, a preaty female Kandar, join in the juggling sometimes (not with weapons but with fruits) and help work the crowd. She is not always there. Something that is obvious from the act is that Rotemdol is equaly facile with both hands and is very agile. In the final act, which is always the same, Rotemdol stands with his back to the crowd juggling four knives. A green and a red apple are thrown in the air and Rotemdol turns and attempts the hit both of them twice before they hit the crowd. To make life more interesting he has to hit the red one with his left hand and the green one with his right hand. Everyone is told that this is very dangerous and are encouraged to watch from the safe (so called chicken) corner. Before the act there is an auction on throwing the apples. Some people are willing to pay for the honor of throwing the apples to thier "friends". If no one will pay his assistant will throw the apples. Bets are taken as to how many hits will be on the apples, who will catch the apples, and if other things will get hit. Rotemdol performance is very uneven. Sometimes, especially if the assistant is throwing the apples, he will hit with all knives and still be juggling four knifes in the end and sometimes only one will hit or maybe even none. So far people in the crowd are not too badly injured. Some claim that his performance depends on the betting but that must be an unjust rumour. In any case he is popular and doing well.

[Rotemdol] Rotemdol is sitting in the the Dragon Tavern talking ( in Manish) to Banjo and Kaiman (human friends from the Ant Hill). He looks like a noble and has a Nirvork at his side but given his company you would guess his social status is not the highest. He seems to give a lot of respect to Banjo. "You know, you should be carful, all sort of assassins out there. If I where you I would go strait home after my performance, anything could happen tonight". Kaiman replies " with the way you have been throwing knives lately we don't need any additional assassin, who will by your accidental target this time?". None of them seem to take the problem too seriously. They then start discussing relative merits of different knives. The discussion gets too technical to be interesting for most people.

Though most of the housewives at the fountain were clean enough, the few day laborers were nearly as dirty, and if his clothes were dirty, they bore fewer patches than many. Though he exchanged a few words with the others who were waiting, he mostly listened as the regulars exchanged gossips about the neighborhood and recent events. As the young man neared the front of the crowd, an old woman approached him. "Dimple & froth?" she inquired. "Shine?" he replied. "Justa spark." Pulling out a small brass coin, the young man filled the dented pewter basin the woman handed over to him at the fountain while the old woman took a bit of soap from a small jar and spread it on a rag. Once prepared, they went over to a bench which stood near the fountain. [Since Tim hasn't put any Calbeyn Anthill slang up on the page, I've made up my own. I hope the meaning of the dialect is obvious from the context. I was going to write the entire exchange in dialect, but decided it was distracting, so what follows is a paraphrase.] As the young man cleaned himself up, he and the old woman continued to speak in the deepest Anthill dialect. It turned out that Nissa (the old woman) had moved out of The Anthill when she married, "a century ago, more or less." In between Nissa's comments about children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Gerryn (the young man) volunteered that he was looking to get out of The Anthill, and looking for a safehouse where no one would be likely to find him for a while.
