[Zul] If none of the big timbers looks like it's going to hit them, Zul will simply cover mother and baby with her leather coat as the sparks fly. If they're in immediate danger, she'll grab the mother and lead/drag her across the street. Once they're not threatened, she'll give the mother a First-Aid once-over as well, then hand the baby back to her. ____________________Reply Separator____________________ Subject: Kalyr 71e - Calbeyn at dawn Author: Tim HallDate: 5/6/02 2:57 PM Rotemdol looks up 'This does not look good', he thinks, ' If she knew what she was doing she would slide down. Probably she will freeze from fear. Wonder how long till the ropes break, probably not enough time to do anything, but one has to try...' Rotemdol spots a rusted drainpipe running down the side of the burning building on this side away from the flames. He judges this would be the fastest way up, and begins to climb. Unfortunately it can't take his weight; he's just a few steps above the street when the entire drainpipe comes away from this side of the building forcing Rotemdol to jump down. As the pipe crashes down across the street, forcing Zul to jump out of the way. Rotemdol dives into the doorway of the adjacent building on the side the fire has yet to reach. He reappears from a high window level with the woman. He throws a rope to the woman, so that she can swing down on it. His first throw is beyond her reach, but she grabs the rope on her second attempt. Her swing down to the street is not elegant, and will win no prizes for athletic stunts. And she lands hard, right at Zul's feet. As if on cue, part of the tenement building from which she's just escaped collapses from within, spilling burning timbers into the street. -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap
[Rotemdol] Coming down Rotemdol stops to see that the people rescued are being taken care off (and to mark them in his mind). He will turn to the woman saying " If you or your kids do not fill well go to the Temple of Valarna. A place to stay and something to eat will do you well. I will try to visit you later". Turning to Banjo "Have you heard of anyone else we could help? Lets go see what we can do" Rotemdol will look to see if there is anyone else he can help. If nothing comes up he will scout the roofs around the fire trying to stop its spreading.
Zul grabs the woman and drags her across the street, getting out of the way of falling timbers just in time. She checks the woman for injuries; although there are no bones broken, she does have a sprained ankle, and it's swelling up badly. "Mummy y'right", cries the oldest of the children. Zul hands the baby, which is now bawling loudly, back to her. Rotemdol climbs back down, stopping briefly to notice that everyone rescued is seems to be taken care of. Everybody seems to accounted for. "If you or your kids do not feel well go to the Temple of Valarna", Rotemdol says, "A place to stay and something to eat will do you well. I will try to visit you later". At the moment, she just looks relieved to be alive, with her children. The fact that her home is gone will doubtless sink in later. Rotemdol turns to Banjo "Have you heard of anyone else we could help? Lets go see what we can do". "Nobody else is trapped", Banjo says, "But we've got Vandrak's own job to stop it spreading. This is a job for the Karazthan with their pumps and hoses!". The flames have already spread to the adjacent building from which Rotemdol effected the rescue. Some people are making an attempt to fight the fire with chains of buckets, from the river, but there are too few buckets to make much of a difference. -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap
[Rotemdol] (you may see something like that again, my replica is acting strangely) turning to Banjo "I will start a roof patrol to prevent the fire from spreading. If you see any cat send him my way"
[Rotemdol] "Tell you what" Rotemdol sais to Banjo " I will start a fire containing roof patrol. Tell any pro you see to join me". After looking around to see if there are any likely candidates Rotemdol will take to a roof. The aim of the patrol will be to stop the fire from spreading by stoping the small spreads.
"Tell you what" Rotemdol sais to Banjo " I will start a fire containing roof patrol. Tell any pro you see to join me". "Up to the roof!", Banjo shouts to the assembled company. "And get ourselves killed?", says a tall bald-headed fellow "He knows what he's doing", says a shorter dark-faced man, "Look how he saved Urla and her kids!" Although many others seem skeptical about what Rotemdol can achieve, he does get five volunteers, four men and a woman, including the bald-headed man. [What about Zul? She joining in?] They follow Rotemdol up onto the roof of an undamaged building, and spread out over the roof. Initial attempts at stamping out small fires work, but a larger spread in the corner of the building is too big for that sort of tactic. -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap

[Zul -- OOC: Sorry, RL craziness] She wraps the woman's sprained ankle, then shanghais one of her neighbors into helping the woman and her brood to the Temple of Valarna. She then looks up to the rooftops and spots Rotemdol. "Yo, Stretch!" she yells, "This is getting way too big for that. Your pal was right: We need the Mechanists and their gear. And since you're the only kandar around, I nominate you to go get 'em. They're more likely to listen to you than anyone else around here."
[Rotemdol] > They follow Rotemdol up onto the roof of an undamaged building, and > spread out over the roof. "No point in taking unnecessary risk" Rotemdol tells to the roof fire brigade. " All of you who are not great climbers go to the next roof and get some water, maybe we will have better luck. On the way (down the stairs of this one and up the next) tell the people to use some water on and in the houses that were not burned. I don't think we can save anything that is burning." Rotemdol will set an easy (for him) way to get to the next building and will continue to try to delay the fire as long as he can without taking risks, at least not for property. Rotemdol figures that they may contain the fire or get lucky, for example, with the wind changing.

And since you're > the only kandar around, I nominate you to go get 'em. They're more > likely to listen to you than anyone else around here." "The name is Rotemdol" Rotemdol replies. "and as to your suggestion I am sure they have seen the fire, everyone in the city has. However, they would be worried about getting out of here alive. Someone with reputation, like the father of your boyfriend, will be needed to assure them. You, as a local, sound like a likely candidate to find that someone and persuade him to go." "In my humble opinion " Rotemdol adds, " it is a wasted effort. By the time they will get here it will be over one way or the other. What about pitching-in?" After waiting politely for a few seconds Rotemdol will get back to work.

She heads back to the intersection where she saw Rataxe's enforcer. On the way, she pauses to sling her nirvork on her back -- where she can't get to it quickly, but no one will see it unless she takes off her coat -- to smear soot on herself, especially in her hair and on her face, and to give herself a tiny, superficial cut on the side of her face that will bleed convincingly without getting in her eyes. "Boyfriend," she mutters to herself as she goes. "Pull that ballerina nirvork crap on me, and I'll make you my boyfriend before you can blink." [OOC: What are the real names of the enforcer, Rataxe himself, (I'm at work, old emails get deleted) and of the closest pimp/madam/house of ill repute that provides significant income to Rataxe? Does Zul have any idea whether the enforcer would respond better to begging or to bullying?]
>[OOC: What are the real names of the enforcer, Rataxe himself, (I'm at work, old >emails get deleted) ] [Rataxe's real name is Andar Telleen. His son is Klarrash. [Zul] She starts looking for Jelland where she last saw him. If she sees any other members of Telleen's gang, she'll ask where Jelland is -- unless the heavy she sees is of equal or greater stature in the syndicate. Then she'll appeal to him/her directly.
[Rotemdol] Rotemdol goes back to fighting the fire. He does not think that the Karazthan will make it in time from the other side of the city if they decide to come at all. He wonders as to why the people of the Ant Hill who always seemed to him so self-reliant and energetic are not putting a stronger effort. Seems to be a leadership problem. He considered the fact that it might be a deliberate fire but he has no clue as to the motive. In any case he has many friends here so he will do what little he can.
