Reylorna keeps a careful watch. From the prisoner to the way they had come, to the room that is now being explored there was a lot to pay attention to but she did her best with a roving eye. Dharak makes eye contact with Jal to make sure he heard the steps as well. Dharak mindspeaks to Reylorna. "*Send Ryzar and Duplar up, quickly and quietly. There's more company in the side passage up here.*" She answers quickly with The Way of the Will. *on their way*. He puts himself against the wall through which the side passage opening issues, covering the entryway with the strange weapon. Jal moves up with Dharak, keeping to the other side in order to cover him, despite his lack of missile weapons. His blades are ready, and he's begins whistling something obscure, probably a heroic march, before realising this will draw the attention of the owner of the footsteps, and falls silent. Reylorna indicates with the motion of her hand that Ryzar and Duplar should join the others while stating "more company up there." Nodding a confirmation, Ryzar holsters his dartgun and quietly draws his wide-bladed shortsword. Then, with the careful tread of a wilderness trained warrior, Ryzar stealths his way up to where the others wait in ambush. Duplar follows, still holding the Karazthani lightning wand Four figures step out of the side-passage. The first is a rather ugly human male, the second is a kandar woman with cropped brown hair, the third a kandar man, wearing a wide-brimmed hat concealing much of his face, despite the fact that the whole place is underground. The fourth wears a cowled robe, hiding his face; no-one can tell race or gender. The human leans over one of the control panels, and flicks a switch. Several greenish lights begin to glow, and the humming sounds get louder. So far none of them seem to have noticed they have visitors. The two kandar exchange glances, and the woman says something agitated in a language nobody present understands. Reylorna continues to look about trying to keep watch on the area as well as their prisoner, giving the prisoners a little more attention in case they attempt to take advantage of the situation. She notices four man-sized figures stepping out of Dharak's side-passage, but her attention is distracted by an crude attempt to control her mind; it seems somebody wants her to release the prisoner's bonds. But her will is powerful enough to resist, and she realises the attempt is coming from the orange prisoner. -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap

[Reylorna] She draws her finger across her throat while giving the creature a sharp glance. She didn't blame him for trying but if he wasn't going to be quiet than the only other choice she had was to threaten him. For some reason she doesn't think that he will give away their position, she has this feeling that he doesn't want to be found by the new arrivals either. She considered putting him to sleep but that would make him more difficult to move if they decided to take him with them, which was currently the plan. --Pandemonium
**This can only be one of the legendary mirrors - and still functional!** On the assumption that lightning wands and machinery like this do not mix well Duplar refrains from setting off his wand. Also, these folk look like potentially useful prisoners - he flips the wand to "Stun". His attack form being ranged, he will stay behind the melee specialists if he can. If he needs to fire his wand he will try to ensure any surplus energy will go into a wall. > > > Nodding a confirmation, Ryzar holsters his dartgun and quietly draws > his wide-bladed shortsword. Ryzar notices Duplar "playing with his wand" ((OOC: I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself! I mean, it was SITTING there, waiting to be said! ^_^)), and also that Dharak is now carrying one of the stranger's long-weapons as if he thinks he knows what to do with it.
Ryzar catches Duplar and Dharak's attentions with a silent wave of his free hand. Ryzar then points at Duplar and Dharak, then points at the group of strangers over at the control station, and mimics firing his own dartgun at them. Then Ryzar points at himself and Jal, and mimics running with two fingers, then makes a swift chopping motion.
Ryzar then drops his free hand down to his side, and raises his eyebrows; a look of expectancy on his face.

[OOC] Bit of clarification on the map - the boxes to the left of the machinery are about waist-height, allowing missile-firers the opportunity to shoot over them, but still allowing cover. The gap between them is only about five feet, meaning that the only one person can pass through at a time. I've only put the bad guys (MH, MK, FK and RF) on the map; PCs can start more or less wherever they want to be. I don't intend to run this as a blow-by-blow, round-by-round affair with a new tactical map each turn - that would be way too slow. -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap

[Dharak] After aiming for several seconds and bracing his arm over the top of the machinery on the right (exposing only his head and shoulders) he'll fire the weapon at the kandar in the hat. He'll keep firing at that target until he goes down or surrenders, or until Jal and Ryzar close for melee. If any of their adversaries produces a missile weapon, Dharak will target the one who appears most dangerous, firing continually in an attempt to suppress enemy fire. (That is to say, he'll keep firing without taking a turn to aim.) If he has no ranged targets, he'll put the weapon in his belt, pull out his stick, and join the melee. ____________________Reply Separator____________________ Subject: Re: Kalyr 72a - The Machines Author: "Pandemonium"Date: 5/20/02 2:52 PM [Reylorna] *Sure I can assist,* she answers via mindspeak. After aiming for several seconds and bracing his arm over the top of the machinery on the right, exposing only his head and shoulders Dharak fires the weapon at the kandar in the hat. The time take to aim pays off; a reddish beam strikes the kandar square in the chest, he lets out a strangled cry, keels over backwards, chest smoking. As the assault begins she attemts to put the lady to sleep. But her initial mental attack isn't strong enough to penetrate the woman's own mind shield. Duplar's only clear target is the woman; although the lightning bolt from his wand strikes home, it's not enough to stun her, although she staggers from the shock. "Uluum! Akvaar Bastaluum! Iaaa!", she cries. Relorna hears her cry, realising the language is Koniac; sounds something like 'Summon the beastmen'. The human at the control panel dives for cover, as Jal and Ryzar close for melee. Once the fire's gone over, Jal is out and running, blades sweeping to engage the figure in the robe, on the assumption that he's the most likely to have something extra up his sleeve! His blow hits home, but doesn't meet the sort of resistance he might expect; it's as if this figures was made of something softer than flesh and bone. Jal finds himself in the grip of a force; he's thrown back across the room, landing heavily and painfully against the machinery on the other side of the room. Ryzar attacks the woman; she's clearly not a fighter, as she doesn't make much of an attempt to dodge or evade his blow; however, his sword passes right through her! Jal attacks the robed figure, while Ryzar goes for the woman earlier hit by Duplar's wand. But Jal is thrown across the tunnel by an invisible force, and Ryzar completely misses his target. -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap

"By the Eternal Flame!" Ryzar exclaims, surprised by the woman's apparent...nothingness, "It MUST be some trick..." Ryzar quicky mumbles to himself; realizing that this Kandar Woman must be some kind of Witch. But, the Kolder HATE Witches......
"Rrrr-aaah!" Ryzar growls in frustration, as he swings again at the Kandar woman, hoping that, perhaps, her trick if "in-solidity" is only temporary.

[Reylorna] She stifles a small scream as she share her opponent's pain. She attempts to put the lady to sleep now that she is in her mind. She briefly thought that this wasn't like any exercise she had experienced at the Academy. Never had she felt another's pain so clearly. If she is successful in affecting the woman, she will briefly listen's to her associate's request. Rather than trying to affect another who probably has a great deal stronger mind, she turns to try and put one of the so called BeastMen to sleep. Hopefully they will turn out to be an easier target. She is certain that she doesn't want them to have a chance to attack her friends. --Pandemonium

Meanwhile Reylorna warns her comrades through mindspeak *she called for the Beastmen, reinforcements I imagine.* Given the ineffectiveness of melee weapons against these strange beings, he decides to take a second to aim. More important not to miss, he thinks, grimly. Ryzar quickly mumbles to himself; realizing that this Kandar Woman must be some kind of Witch. But, the Kolder HATE Witches...... "Rrrr-aaah!" Ryzar growls in frustration, as he swings again at the Kandar woman, hoping that, perhaps, her trick if "in-solidity" is only temporary. This time his blow hits something; she lets out a scream of pain. Reylorna attempts to put the woman to sleep one more time, forcing her own will to greater effort. This time her attack is strong enough to overcome the woman's mind shield, although Reylorna herself feels the sword blow inflicted by Ryzar. The woman falls at Ryzar's feet. But as Dharak squeezes the trigger of the weapon to shoot the only visible opponent, it's lifted up and swung round, the beam narrowly missing Duplar, who is forced to duck for cover. Rolling to his feet, Jal looks around to see if the machinery might have anything to do with this effect - There are no wires go up the bloke's back. He does see the fourth opponent, who had dived beneath the machinery aiming a hand weapon looking like a cross between Duplar's lightning wand and Ryzar's dartgun at him. Two figures burst out of the tunnel from which the other four had emerged previously; they're large, heavily-build man-like creatures, with dark grey leathery skin, naked to the waist, with bald heads and beastial faces. Both wield two-handed axes that look as if they could easily cut a man in half. -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap
[Dharak] He curses under his breath and ducks behind the machinery, hoping that, by getting out of the telekinetic's line of sight, he'll release himself from his enemy's mental grip. With all his strength, he points the weapon at the floor. *Take out that telekinetic, the robed one* he mindspeaks to Reylorna and Duplar. *And sister, send up Kylar. Two are down, but they've called in two big, ugly friends with axes.* If he feels the grip on his weapon release, he'll pop back up again and take a snap shot at whatever target he has a clear look at. If he has to, he'll throw his parrying dagger, but he doesn't want to because he isn't very good at doing this. -- Hugh Foster hugh@ace-dog.com http://www.ace-dog.com Sun, 09 Jun 2002 19:27 +0100 "Piece out our imperfections with your thoughts"

Reylorna draws her finger across her throat while giving the creature a sharp glance. **This can only be one of the legendary mirrors - and still functional!**, Duplar thinks. On the assumption that lightning wands and machinery like this do not mix well Duplar refrains from setting off his wand. Also, these folk look like potentially useful prisoners - he flips the wand to "Stun". Ryzar notices Duplar "playing with his wand", and also that Dharak is now carrying one of the stranger's long-weapons as if he thinks he knows what to do with it. Dharak nods. *Sister, our odds aren't that great here.* Dharak mindspeaks to Reylorna. *We could use your powers -- but we daren't leave Kylar alone with our psionic prisoners. I recommend you use me as your eyes, and try to put at least one of these people in front of the machines to sleep.* *Sure I can assist,* she answers via mindspeak.
