[Zul] She'll stick with the dwarf if he doesn't seem to mind, trying to engage him in conversation about Rataxe, while helping out the firefighting/rescue effort where she can. ____________________Reply Separator____________________ Subject: Kalyr: 73f - Fire-Fighting Author: Tim HallDate: 7/5/02 2:01 PM Rotemdol tries calling for someone with medical skills. "How bad is he?", a black-uniformed Karazthani asks. "Broken leg", Banjo shouts back. The Karazthani shouts something to someone else at the other end of the street, then turns back to Banjo and Rotemdol. "Keep him stable, we'll get back to him". "You should get to the Temple of Valarna", Rotemdol tells the wounded man, "They will be able to treat this easily. I will try to visit you later". Rotemdol does what he can to make the man comfortable. Eventually two men, probably local anthill-drellers, arrive with a stretcher, accompanied by a Karazthani. "We'll have to move him", says the Karazthani, "This isn't a safe area, we need to use blasting charges to bring down the next building and make a clear firebreak". Carefully they lift the man onto a stretcher. "If you need anything done that a climber can do let me know", Rotemdol asks, although he's quite satisfied to be a spectator while the pros are working. Zul observes the way the Karazthan are fighting the fire. From what she seems and overhears, it seems they're preparing to use 'charges' to blow up some buildings that can't be saved in order to create a firebreak. For those areas they think they can save, they're spraying water using large pumps mounted on the power-waggons, drawing water from the river below. The city guard are largely absent, but the anthill denizens are pitching in, largely following orders from the Karazthani, something which surprises her to some extent. -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap
[Oops, messed up the header on the previous post]Zul sticks with Aldrand, and tries to engage him in conversation about Rataxe. "Rataxe dun't like this t'all", says Aldrand, "Men In Black crawlin' all over. 'spose 's better'n all burn down. Far worse'n last fire ten years back". Zul only dimly remembers the previous fire, on the other side of the anthill. That part got rapidly rebuilt, just as the scar of this fire will probably be rebuilt, equally rapidly, and equally haphazardly. And probably as fire-proof as before. Everybody is ordered back. "We're about to fire the charges", announces a Karazthani. The crowd hushes in explaination. Then, with a dull boom, several tenement blocks on the edge of the fire crumple in clouds of dust. Once the dust has cleared, there's a clear break, too far for the fire to jump across. "Perfect", says one Karazthani, a human, "We've saved this whole sector. Now it's up to the hose-men at the other end." "Whole place is a fire trap", replies a kandar Karazthani to another. Why do we bother? We should just let it burn". "Humans are people too", the human says angrily, "And the people that own this place have power". The kandar turns to Rotemdol, Banjo, Zul and Aldrand "You four!", he says, "Just standing around. Help clear any burnable timbers from the buildings we've blown. Make sure the fire doesn't cross the gap we've made". -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap

She looks for an opportunity to speak with his human counterpart.

As Rotemdol and Banjo get to work clearing the burnable timbers Rotemdol comments to Banjo " do you think she is unhappy about being told to work, being told to work by a male or being told to work by a kandar? Look at her move, if she has the discipline she could probably become a decent knife fighter in a few years"

[Rotemdol] Continue to work in clearing the area looking for: - A knife as a memento - People looting - The red headed female (some people have interesting lives) After everything seems under control Rotemdol will head to the Temple of Valarna going through the pub first to change cloth and pick some juggling equipment. He will invite Banjo and whomever was helping him to come along and see how the wounded are doing, as well as see a free show.

[Zul] "If that guy was running your outfit, he'd let the whole 'Hill burn down," she says as she works, with a nod at the kandar Karazthani. "Good thing you've got a smarter breed of kandar running the show, I guess. This isn't your neighborhood we're saving, is it?"
Rotemdol gets within earshot of the red headed female; some people have interesting lives. She's talking to a Karazthani as they work. "If that guy was running your outfit, he'd let the whole 'Hill burn down," Zul says as she works, with a nod at the kandar Karazthani. "Good thing you've got a smarter breed of kandar running the show, I guess. This isn't your neighbourhood we're saving, is it?" "No, no Karazthani live in an area like this", the Karazthani replies, "Fighting fires is one of our duties to the city, and there's nothing about not fighting a fire because some higher-ups don't care for the inhabitants much. Narseyr's just letting his feelings show a bit too much. Any clue how this started? He's right about this whole area being a fire-trap; should really level the place and rebuild, 'cept the inhabitants are too poor". Rotemdol finds a knife, probably a kitchen knife, in the rubble as he shifts the smouldering timbers. He keeps an eye open of looters; realising with a guilty pang that technically he's one himself, even though it's only a knife. He does notice a human he hadn't seen before slipping something in a pocket; perhaps another knife, or perhaps some coins. -- Tim Hall, http://www.kalyr.com "It's a fine line between stupid and clever" - Spinal Tap
