Kalyr is set in my original fantasy world of Kalyr, and focuses on the struggle between the ancient and decadent kandar civilisation, and their rebellious human slaves. It features psionics, arcane technology, strange alien races, mystery and intrigue. Influences include Gene Wolfe & Jack Vance, but don't let that put you off!

Kalyr: 99 - Outside the Dragon (Rotemdol)

The story of the assassination is all over town by morning, with details
ranging from worryingly accurate to totally fantastical. It was the
Right Hand of Vandrak, many say, probably inspired by the graffiti on
many, many walls. Somebody had been busy last night. In blood-red red
letters, all over the top end of the city, are the words:

"Tanala was First. Who will be Next? The Right Hand of Vandrak!"

The city guard are out in force. Anyone in the area who looks
insufficiently busy finds themselves pressganged into work gangs, tasked
with removing the graffiti. Some try to scrub the red paint off walls,
with mixed success. Others are simply painting out the graffiti in
whatever paint is available, even if it completely clashes with whatever
paint the wall was originally painted in. There are very few people in
the Dragon; nobody is going to be lounging around drinking, and the
Guard have even 'borrowed' some of the staff.

Opinions are divided as to whether or not the enigmatic Right Hand of
Vandrak are really behind the death, or are merely trying to exploit it.
One rumour Rotemdol hears says from one of the few street traders not
shanghaied into graffiti removal says that Tanala and Kluranyr had
killed each other in a bizarre suicide pact.

Seeing that entertainment is currently out, Rotemdol will catch up on his
sleep. Around noon will start practicing with Lulmyra.
[ooc: Rotemdol is not aware of anything specific that needs being done, I
will be happy for him to be anywhere where the action is]

Kalyr: 99 - Outside the Dragon (Rotemdol)

Being a kandar, Rotemdol is less at risk of being pressganged into
involuntary painting and decorating duties, and by striding purposefully
towards the Temple of Valarna, he manages to avoid it altogether.

"What's happening?", Lulmyra says, "The priestesses won't tell us
anything. But everyone looks so frightened. There was a nightmare we
all had last night, it was horrible. Even when we were still awake".

"I have no clue" Rotemdol replies. " People write things on walls, nasty
things, and everyone thinks that something is bound to happen. Heard that
one of the mind wizards was killed. Anyway lets go to the Dragon and
starts practicing". Rotemdol leads Lulmyra (and her siblings if they want
to come) to the Dragon and there they will workout for about four hours.
It will not be too intensive as a lot of the time she will be just watching
how he does things.

"It was horrible, the nightmare", she says, "Like a woman screaming, but
inside your head. Everybody heard it! Is that what happens when a
wizard dies?".

Rotemdol is having an off day, it seems. His knife-throwing fails to
consistently hit the target, as if the events of the last day are
getting to him. Of course, part of his performance is to make mistakes
looks as though their part of the act. However, he senses that Lulmyra
realises he's a bit off-form today.

Lulmyra isn't much better; perhaps bad days are infectious. Eventually
various patrons start drifting back in, their graffiti clearing
presumably complete.

Ayras Ni is around as well; knowing him, he'd probably been successful
at making himself scarce when the Guard were looking for volunteers. He
waits for a pause in the knife throwing.

"City's gone crazy again", he says to Rotemdol, "The Right Hand of
Vandrak seem to be back".

Turning to Lulmyra " not my day today, lets go back to the basics. go drink
something, we will continue in a few"

"so it seems" Rotemdol replies " last night I was out to give a
performance, it was supposed to be at the Karazthan's but they would not
let us in, security they said. We ended up in the Docker's Armpit's...
Anyway, met the red-headed girl who was here three days ago and performed a
dance over Klarrash. Know her? trouble seem to be following that one,
that is when she is not actively getting into corners"

Lulmyra gets herself a large steaming mug of gleyr, which Rotemdol
gathers will be on his tab.

"That woman", he replies, "Professional troublemaker, if you ask me.
She's connected with the 'ladies of negotiable virtue' in the city; not
one of them herself, but he tend to break the heads of anyone who harms
one".

"Got a past, as well, or so I hear. Not sure what, but there's a trace
of Filgeth in her accent. More to that girl than meets the eye. She's
dangerous. Dangerous to who is a question I don't know the answer to"
