The investigation into Tanala's murder has so far yielded few clues. The sole witness, the knight Kluranyr, has been hovering between life and death for several days, and the Priestesses of Valarna will not let anyone speak to him until they can stabilise him. Just about the only solid evidence is that the fatal shot came from a rooftop just below the city walls. Reylorna has stood on the roof, and observed the scene from the assassin's viewpoint. But the assassin was clever enough not to leave much in the way of physical clues. What's more surprising is that the forensic wizards have been able to read little of nothing using the Way of Vision. Just over a week after the assassination, word comes from the Temple of Valarna that Kluranyr is able to speak.
Reylorna She drops whatever duties she was occupying herself with, and immediately heads for the temple. This was the first real chance she would have to learn something. Her other options having been frustrated by the assassin's skill. At the temple she takes a moment to arrange her robes and knock off a little of the road dust. She puts on a smile and makes her way to the temple authorities to request to see him. [OOC: This assumes that she has the authority to look into this. If she requires someone from the Academy to validate her investigation then she will go get her first so that they can both go to the temple.] -- Pandemonium Quoting Tim: > The investigation into Tanala's murder has so far yielded few clues. Reylorna drops whatever duties she was occupying herself with, and immediately heads for the temple, accompanied by two mageguards. This was the first real chance she would have to learn something. Her other options having been frustrated by the assassin's skill. At the temple she takes a moment to arrange her robes and knock off a little of the road dust. She puts on a smile and makes her way to the temple authorities to request to see him. Reylorna presents her authorisation to the priestess on duty, a shortish kandar woman who could easily be mistaken for a human, especially with the brown hood of her robe almost covering her face. "We have been expecting you", the priestess replies, "You've come to see Kluranyr, I see. I had better warn you that he was not expecting the wizard to be human. Don't upset him so badly that he ruptures something". A junior healer leads Reylorna to a one of the private chambers, deep within the temple complex, but not so deep that it's deprived of natural light, which streams in through a small window high up on the wall. The injured knight lies on a bed, dressed in a white gown, propped up by pillows. "We have the investigating wizard", says the healer, indicating Reylorna. Kluranyr turns his head, and frowns. "Valarna's tits!", he says, "They sent a *multiplying* /human/. Are they doing this just to torment me?".
[Reylorna] She bowed her head in respect to the knight. "I am human good knight, but I believe you will find that I am very well suited to the investigation. There is much race difficulty going on outside the temple walls. I am more interested in finding the killer than you can imagine. This attack is as dangerous to our current race issues as it is to your health. We must find and apprehend the culprit or culprits so that the truth is known. I don't care which way the truth falls but the truth must be discovered." Having said her piece she waits a moment for the knight to decide how he wishes to respond. "I am at your disposal to hear all that you know. You are the best chance we have for finding the assassin. If you absolutely wish not to deal with me, I will accept your word and send another representative. But the Academy has chosen me to investigate given my own unique status." -----Original Message----- From: bounces@phoenyx.net [mailto:bounces@phoenyx.net]On Behalf Of Tim Sent: Sunday, October 02, 2005 10:45 AM To: kalyr@phoenyx.net Subject: Re: Kalyr 102 - Investigations [Reylorna] Reylorna drops whatever duties she was occupying herself with, and immediately heads for the temple, accompanied by two mageguards. "Own unique status my arse", he snorts, "As if a freak like you could achieve anything. You must know how Tanala thought you were an abomination. Asking *you* to investigate is just dancing on her grave. Kardak should strike you down!". "What do you think you can possibly achieve?", he says, "My zarandar would do better".
[Reylorna] She eyed the knight and paused before speaking. It is precisely your attitude that is the reason I have been assigned. I have no love for Tanala and her ilk, but I will get to the bottom of this. I have abilities that allow me to find out things that you have no understanding of. You see a poor pitiful human who has come to you begging for help. I do not beg, nor do I wish to force my will upon you. I want your assistance because you survived the assination and have the most direct information. Though to be honest perceptive evidence leaves a great deal to be desired. Your attitude will color what you have seen and you may omit things that are very pertinent just because you don't feel the are important." She took a deep breath. "I once again ask for your cooperation. If you will not work with me, I will be forced to seek other means. And the end result you will have no say in. So it is ultimately your choice, lie there, wait for them to come back and finish the job, or help me find them and stop what is happening." -----Original Message----- From: bounces@phoenyx.net [mailto:bounces@phoenyx.net]On Behalf Of Tim Sent: Thursday, October 13, 2005 2:30 PM To: kalyr@phoenyx.net Subject: Re: Kalyr 102 - Investigations [Reylorna] > She bowed her head in respect to the knight. [Reylorna] She let out a little puff of air which could be called a huff in other cultures. "I mean that if you don't cooperate with me, the assassin or assassins whatever their race may be will come back and finish the job. If you help me we may be able to catch them and prevent that. As of right now you are the only loose end in their minds. "Take my meaning whatever way you wish, as you will. I am here to find the truth. If it was a human than by all means I will see that they are proscuted just as if they were anything else. I don't care who did it, I want to know the truth of who did it. "As I said I am no fan of many different people. I am human it does color my perceptions, just as your being kandar colors yours. I am not concerned whether or not you hate all humans, or just me. I want the parties behind this. If it reveals that a human performed it all the more reason to clear it up quickly and squash them like a bug. If it is something else, then again move rapidly lest it become something more and be a problem for all of us. "We are to both exist on the face of this world. I have seen how humans came to this world oh so long ago. I know that there are some who still can use those ancient tools to invade our world. If we are fighting amongst ourselves there is a better chance that they can take over easily." She took a deep breath pausing in her quickly rendered speech. "Wait", he says, "I know I've seen you before; now I remember where. You were with that legionnaire idiot that challenged me to a duel on the road to Ardeth. When he cheated, and stole my sword!". "Where is he now? Is he still alive? And has he still got my sword? I want it back!".

He still had the sword last time Reylorna saw him]

Pandemonium wrote: > [OOC: Yes but did he cheat? I vaguely remember the duel, and I thought it was > fair.] 'Cheat' is a subjective and flexible concept here. Kandar knights fight in a complex, ritualised martial art, especially in a formal duel. Legionnaire's training emphasises ending any fight as quickly and effectively as possible.
{OOC: Just to confirm. Even though she is sanctioned to perform the
investigation, jumping right into the guy's mind and trying to get what she
can, would be considered wrong. :)}

Yes. Reading someone's mind without permission is legally considered to
be an assault, so it's more than just very bad manners; it's the
equivalent of thumping someone.
This doesn't apply to criminal suspects. This is a culture that
routinely uses torture to extract information.
It also doesn't apply when the city Tharn orders everybody in an area to
be screened to find the guilty party. (Reylorna had experience of this,
which ended in Cylene's tragic death) But the orders need to come from
very high up.
