Zul hurries up towards the top end of the city; she's running an errand on behalf of one of the Ladies of Negotiable Virtue, Soyara. The city has been tense following the latest assassination, but at least Andar and Klarrash Teleen's mob has kept off her back. So far, at least. Zul realises she's being followed, at just the point where there's no turnings or side alleys she can disappear down. Then her worst fears are confirmed; the far end of the street is blocked, by armed men. But they're not Teleen's men this time. They're kandar, for a start. Three of them wear the grey uniforms of the city guard. Another two, a man and a woman wear the insignia of the Guild of Construction. A sixth individual, unarmed, one whole side of his head covered by bandages, points at her. "That's her!", he says, "She's the one what threw the bomb!".

[Zul] She nods at the lead Guardsman steps gracefully to the side of the road. "You're obviously rushing this poor, confused fellow to the Temple of Valarna for some urgently needed medical attention," she says gravely. "Don't let me stand in your way." >From: Tim>Reply-To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >Subject: Kalyr 106 - She Did It! "Nice try", says the one of the city guards, "But Olmer her has already had treatment for the wounds your bomb gave him. Now, are you going to come quietly, or are we going to have to shoot you dead while resisting arrest?". "If you cooperate", says one of the guild security, "They'll kill you quickly and painlessly, rather than torturing you first". "Slow and painful, it's what she deserves", says the wounded man.
[OOC: Couple of things. First, does she recognize any of these jokers? Second, is there, in Zul's judgment, any possibility of escape? Third. under the kandar system of "justice," would she have any chance to formally plead her case, or would she believe that surrender=suicide?] >From: Tim>Reply-To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >Subject: Re: Kalyr 106 - She Did It! She's seen at least one of the faces before around the Guild of Construction, and recognises one of the city guards. This makes it most unlikely that they're impostors. > Second, is there, in Zul's judgment, any possibility of escape? To her left, there's a high (10') wall, behind which is the courtyard of the Temple of Valarna. To her left is a low (3') stone wall. On the other side of the wall is a 15' drop into a swift-flowing river with another 15' wall on the opposite bank. The sides are sloping but steep; and don't forget these guys have crossbows. It's theoretically possible to swim downstream and come up further down, and climb up somewhere near Waterfall Bridge. But if the current carries her on under the bridge, it's over the waterfall she goes.... > Third. under the kandar system of "justice," would she have any > chance to formally plead her case, or would she believe that > surrender=suicide?] If Zul was in one of the more traditional cities, she's be in trouble. With no guild to defend her, she'd get railroaded, and they might not even bother with the niceties of a trial. In Calbeyn, they have some concept of 'justice', and a judge appointed by the city ruler is supposed to consider the evidence. They do tend to use torture to extract evidence, though.
[Zul] Her face twists into a moue. "You want me to run, doncha?" He shakes her head. "Unh-unh. Nope. You know why? 'Cause I didn't do it, is why. Seriously, this guy's brains are scrambled -- maybe it was the bomb, or... well, he's wrong." >From: Tim>Reply-To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >Subject: Re: Kalyr 106 - She Did It! It was her". "So you're going to come quietly, then", says the lead guardsman, "We've got a nice cell ready for you".
