There's a blow to the back of Zul's head, and everything goes black. She awakes with the mother of all headaches somewhere cold and damp, lit by just a few flickering torches, one of which illuminates a dead rat. As she comes round, she realises she's not alone. Zul is just one of perhaps thirty or forty prisoners thrown into what amounts to a large holding tank; they've made no attempt to segregate men from women. She recognises quite a few people, including Soyara, one of the 'working girls', and a fellow called Banjo who seems to be an associate of the knife-thrower Rotemdol.

[Zul] Zul walks where Soyara can see her and scratches behind her own left ear -- the standard sign for "you don't know me" she uses with regular clients. She then approaches Banjo. "All the unusual suspects, huh?" she snorts, shaking her head. "Search me", Banjo replies, "I was just minding my own business; they seemed think I was involved in that bomb attack. Or that wizard's murder. Or something. Don't know what's happened to Rotemdol". "What did they accuse you of?", he asks, "Or did Klarrash Telleen just frame you for revenge?".
[Zul] "Tsst. They're trying to pin the bombing on me, too. Eyewitness and everything. If they're casting this wide a net, I doubt it's a Telleen thing. "Eyewitnesses, eh?", Banjo says, "Do you have a double, or does someone not have Kalyr's best eyesight? Trouble with Telleen, even if he had nothing to do with framing you, he can pull strings to get you beheaded if he wanted to. Or if that spawn of his wanted him to". The holding tank they're in is large irregular-shaped area, with one or two alcoves that appear to be sealed-up doorways, which might be weaker than the main walls. The entrance is a barred door with a massive iron lock; the keys held by the guards are big enough to use as offensive weapons. Beyond the door Zul can see dimly-lit passages heading off in several directions, patrolled by guardsmen at regular intervals. Most of the guards seem to be human, and Zul has identified at least eight different individuals. She's not sure of the total strength; there may be more of them that she hasn't seen. The number of prisoners means that the guards might be in trouble if there's a breakout, unless they can call on outside reinforcements quickly. So far, nobody has bought any food, although it's several hours since Zul regained consciousness. She's actually getting quite hungry.
[Zul] Two things. First, she'll pick around at the alcoves for any sign of weak spots. Second, she'll try to catch a glimpse of the guards, and see if she recognizes any of them as clients of her clients! If so, she'll try to catch their attention, dropping her client's name and trying to strike up a conversation. >From: Tim>Reply-To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >Subject: Re: Kalyr 109 - The Dungeons [Zul] >Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2006 12:27:24 CDT > > > [Zul] > > > > She grins at Jaguille. The guard pretends to ignore her at first, but quite soon it's obvious that her taunts are getting to him. He gets more and more rattled, and eventually comes stomping over to the barred door, key in hand. "You want me to try those tricks on you, bitch?", he snarls. [This is the point at which I find I've still got the map of the entire citadel complex that I'd drawn 15 years ago for my original FtF campaign :) ] From the guardroom there are passages leading off in several directions; some steps leading up. While the main front entrance is well-known, leading out towards the front gate of the Citadel, others are less obvious. There's one stairway that *might* lead to the City Guard station. "Hey, there's a bricked up passageway", says one of the prisoners, a burly docker Zul recalls goes by the name of Hargan. Doesn't lead to any other part of the dungeon. But the wall doesn't look too solid.
[Zul] She gives the new wall a tentative but firm straight kick (with the bottom of her foot, not her toe) to test its strength. >From: Tim>Reply-To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >Subject: Re: Kalyr 109 - The Dungeons [Zul] >Date: Sun, 12 Nov 2006 10:00:33 CST > >Ted Kissell wrote: > > > Wiping blood from her commandeered blade, she calls a quick huddle with >her > > co-conspirators. > > > > "So, do we go barrelling out the front door and try to make it to the > > Anthill that way, or is there a sneakier way out?" she asks. > >[This is the point at which I find I've still got the map of the entire >citadel complex that I'd drawn 15 years ago for my original FtF campaign >:) ] > > From the guardroom there are passages leading off in several >directions; some steps leading up. Beyond the wall is a rough-hewn tunnel. A cool breeze blows though out. "It's in the direction of the citadel", Jalguille says. "So we'll end up in the Tharn's banqueting hall?", Soyara asks.
[Zul] "I like that cool air," Zul says. "Should lead outside, maybe to the river. I say we go this way, and fast — before half the city guard comes down on our heads." They follow the direction of the cool air, heading downwards. Fortunately a couple of the prisoners have liberated some lightsticks from the guardroom, and the ghostly green lite illuminates the tunnel walls. They pass more than one side tunnel, each of which leads upwards. The tunnels ends in a large underground chamber filled with water; it appears to be a cistern into which the cities storm drains enter. "What now?", asks Banjo. The water probably flows out into the river through a water-filled tunnel. It might be possible to swim for it, but it would be risky. The other option would be to follow the storm drain uphill, and hope to find a maintenance hatch opening into the street sufficiently far from the citadel. > [OOC: How many surviving jailbreakers, how many armed?] [About fifty; Quite a few are armed with swords and maces taken from the guards]
[Zul] "I vote for staying dry for now," Zul says. "Let's try to find a manhole far enough away from the Citadel before we pop out." >From: Tim>Reply-To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >Subject: Re: Kalyr 109 - The Dungeons [Zul] >Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2007 16:18:25 CST > >Ted Kissell wrote: > > > "I like that cool air," Zul says. The storm drains fan out into various parts of the south side of the city. Rather than everyone all piling out of a single manhole, the escapees scatter down different tunnels. The sound of booted feet echoing along the tunnel behind serves to concentrate minds. Zul finds herself on the edge of the Anthill not far from the Temple of Kardak, accompanied by Soyara and Banjo.
[Zul] She does what she can to conceal her weapon [OOC: She'll ditch it someplace difficult to find if she feels she can't hide it and it would attract too much attention] and keeps moving, quickly but calmly — away from the Temple of Kardak, if possible! "As I'm not from around here, I'll defer to your judgment on a choice of hideouts," Zul says quietly to Banjo as they burrow into the twisting alleys of the Anthill. >From: Tim>Reply-To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >To: kalyr@phoenyx.net >Subject: Re: Kalyr 109 - The Dungeons [Zul] >Date: Thu, 25 Jan 2007 16:32:35 CST > >Ted Kissell wrote: > > > "I vote for staying dry for now," Zul says.
