Hi - The web site for my game (SylvrStorm - list name 'storm') is currently on Geocities, but I'd like to move it to Phoenyx. I'm having a bit of trouble though. I found ftp.phoenyx.net/pub/incoming and successfully uploaded a few files there. Then I tried using the 'move' button on the Phoenyx Web Editing page to move a file to my directory. I left the 'Move to' box blank, because it said 'blank if same', and I didn't want to rename the files. It said the move was successful, and the file disappeared from the ftp directory. But, when I tried to view the files, I got 404 errors. Except for index.html - that one gave me the default index page. It looks like the files did not go where I wanted them, but they don't show up in the ftp directory anymore, so it looks like they went *somewhere*. At one point I thought maybe the existence of the default index.html was interfering, so I deleted it. (That worked; when I tested it again, I got a 404 for that too.) Then I tried to upload my version of index.html, and it told me I didn't have overwrite permission. So now it looks like my files *are* still in the 'incoming' directory, but I just can't see them. I did some trying with a JPG and another html, but got consistent results. Question 1: What am I doing wrong? How do I move the files from the 'incoming' directory to the storm directory? Question 2: I know it's a bit lame/cliche these days, but I like to have a hit counter on my index page. Does Phoenyx have one that I can put on my page, and if so, can I preset it to continue the count from my current Geocities site? Question 3: I may be hallucinating, but at one time I thought the banner code had the ability to randomly display any one of the various Phoenyx game banners (i.e. to promote each others' games), but mine always only shows the SylvrStorm banner. Question 4: Is it allowable to have a jpg as the banner, as long as it's the correct dimensions? Thanks a lot, Kevin. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners

I think they normally disappear, but I'm not sure. The thing wasn't pointing to the right FTP directory, so I changed that. Well, at least it was consistent. KT>Question 1: What am I doing wrong? How do I move the files from the KT>'incoming' directory to the storm directory? You weren't doing anything wrong, it just wasn't configured right. I started to work with the web editor awhile back, to teach it to handle multiple domain names, and never quite finished. It's coming back up to the front of the queue again. KT>Question 2: I know it's a bit lame/cliche these days, but I like to have a KT>hit counter on my index page. No, but if you go to http://www.cgi-resources.com, you can find a remotely hosted one. If you're just doing it to count web hits, though, don't bother... I can give you much more useful stuff from web log analysis. Look at http://silver.phoenyx.net/log/log.html to see what it looks like when I analyze The Dog's logs. I turned that off when we moved to our own host, and have never turned it back on. I'm going to have to re-enable that soon, too. KT>Question 4: Is it allowable to have a jpg as the banner, as long as it's the KT>correct dimensions? I think the filename was dynamically calculated and assumes .gif, but whenever I get around to revamping it I'll teach it to do both. Of course, you can put whatever you want on your own pages. -- Karen J. Hi, This is related to my attempts to FTP pages to my 'storm' site on Phoenyx, so I can get rid of my Geocities one. Previously, I had successfully FTP'd a few files to Phoenyx, but could not move them to the storm directory. I noticed that they are now in the correct directory - thanks! Since I have quite a few files to upload before the site is complete, I thought I'd try again (file name = charactr.html). Part of the response to my earlier post was ... > KT>I found ftp.phoenyx.net/pub/incoming and successfully uploaded > a few files > KT>there. Then I tried using the 'move' button on the Phoenyx > Web Editing page > KT>to move a file to my directory. Another part of that response said ... > KT>Question 1: What am I doing wrong? I just don't want to be sitting here waiting for you to fix something that already works, if I'm just doing something wrong. Assuming it doesn't work and I just have to wait - could you give me a ballpark of when it's likely to be done? I just want to know so I can decide whether to go to the bother of updating my Geocities site or wait until I can switch to Phoenyx. It works, just not spectacularly, and still not for the wirebird.com sites. -- Karen J.
