Discussion, mostly technical, about running Phoenyx groups goes here. Hypotheticals and wishlists go in stakeholders.

Problem lurkers

I have had a lurker (using an aol address!) start posting supposedly
in-character game posts.

I assume I'm dealing with a generic clueless newbie here, but there's
a possiblilty at the back of my mind that I'm dealing with a malicious
idiot trying to take the piss.

What's Standard Operating Procedure here? Do I try to reason with
this guy, or do I just quietly unsubscribe him/her/it an hope they go
away?

Below is the boilerplate email I have sent (twice)

This game rules exactly like a tabletop RPG with a GM (me) and some
players (the other six). It's not a freeform game or a MUD.

Any extra players must submit a character to me first so I can work
them into the storyline - We can't have characters suddenly
materialising out of nowhere!

Also new players can only join when the game reaches an appropriate
place, and there's a limit to the number of characters I can handle as
GM.

Quietly unsubscribing them is my usual option, if they aren't responding
to direct messages. I can bump him/her/it to moderated status, if you'd
prefer. (I really am going to make that an available option soon.)
