Okay, here are some things I'm kicking around for the next release. (First I have to update the docco for this release.) Feel free to add to the list, or point out any non-functioning features in the current release, and let me know what you want prioritized highest. Keyword recognition - ban (or direct to subtopic, or send help file in response to) message based on words in subject or body. More detailed mail log - including when it was delivered, and to whom. Number moderation - users' first N messages must be moderated Bypass moderation - set certain users to never be moderated Release after no approval - release members' messages after N days if no action is taken otherwise. Replace/enhance Mhonarc (web archiver) - allow replying (by members) from web page, last-read markers, etc. Configurable bouncer settings - adjust frequency and duration of bounce notifications, prevent certain users from being auto-unsubbed Make available as newsgroup - echo to private, secure newsserver Fix the darn auto-unsubber -- Karen J. >Keyword recognition - ban (or direct to subtopic, or send help file in >response to) message based on words in subject or body. I'm sure there are a lot of uses for a feature like this, but I can see problems as well (subject lines might be OK, but keywords in the message body might be troublesome). >Configurable bouncer settings - adjust frequency and duration of bounce >notifications, prevent certain users from being auto-unsubbed Might be useful to prevent players getting auto-unsubbed. >Make available as newsgroup - echo to private, secure newsserver I like this idea a lot; would be especially useful for the non-game groups. But do we really want a phoenyx.chatter? >Fix the darn auto-unsubber How many non-standard mail systems are there out there? -- Tim Hall, http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/timjh "The Very Big Stupid is a thing which breeds by eating The Future. Just something I noticed when subscribing someone using the command to the majordomo, it sends out the welcome message to the person sending the command...not to the person subscribed. Just FYI. Just FYI. Another good reason not to subscribe people... they should be subscribing themselves. -- Carl D Cravens (raven@phoenyx.net) Where am I . . . and why am I in this handbasket? -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners

Subject plus first non-blank line was a good search on the old one, usually caught the "please unsubscribe me" one-liners. > More detailed mail log - including when it was delivered, and to whom. Not much of a factor. > Number moderation - users' first N messages must be moderated Don't know if I'd use this. Would be nice on some lists, though. > Bypass moderation - set certain users to never be moderated Probably useful for some games. Westwind is blessed with a normally quiet batch of lurkers. > Release after no approval - release members' messages after N days if no > action is taken otherwise. Wouldn't use this, since we don't moderate. > Replace/enhance Mhonarc (web archiver) - allow replying (by members) from > web page, last-read markers, etc. Mostly cosmetic. Mhonarc is very customizable, isn't it? > Configurable bouncer settings - adjust frequency and duration of bounce > notifications, prevent certain users from being auto-unsubbed Freq/duration seems all right, but locking certain users in would be very good. > Make available as newsgroup - echo to private, secure newsserver No interest from me. > Fix the darn auto-unsubber Jeff seems to work fine to me. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners

As Jason mentioned, the old software (waaay back when) used to scan the first line of the body, which occasionally got some false hits, but not too often. t>Might be useful to prevent players getting auto-unsubbed. Players hadn't ought to be on unreliable servers anyway, but it can happen. t>How many non-standard mail systems are there out there? Zillions. The old VB Phoenyx had a randomizer built in that you could access with special characters in your message. Any chance of that making a reappearance? I never did get around to using it, but it was more convenient than the various web dice servers. ---- Jeff Johnson jsjohnso@islandnet.com Tinsel is really snakes' mirrors. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners

Not until I figure out how to make it easier to use. The old one was okay
[for those who weren't around, if you embedded $[1d10] in a message, it
replaced it with ${1d10 = 5} or so in the distributed version. And it
wailed if you tried to embed ${1d10 = 10} in a message yourself] but no
one ever remembered how it worked (example: I can't actually remember
if it started with square braces and replaced them with curly or the other
way around) so they didn't use it. You could get fancy and use 1d10+10,
2d6+1d10, all sorts of things, even Fudge dice.
I'm open to suggestions to make it usable.
