Web editor file upload/FTP move ?

Decided to try the web editor file functions since I needed to update my
Oasis GM text archives.

To start off with, I deleted the old ones - I spellchecked my copies and
fixed a few weird line wraps. That worked fine.

Then I tried to upload new ones...

'Upload a file with netscape' didn't work correctly. It seemed to do
something, but didn't take anywhere near long enough for a 150KB zip
file, and no file appeared. I'm using IE 5.01.

I then uploaded a file into the phoenyx incoming FTP area - or at least
what I thought was that area. I then used the web editor 'move'
function. It seemed to work - showed me a file successfully copied
message - but nothing ever showed up in the web editor directory
listing, and my file is still in the incoming directory.

Maybe I'm using the wrong FTP site? I haven't used it in some time.

WSFTP log excerpt below...

connecting to 206.53.103.2 ...
Connected to 206.53.103.2 port 21
220 onyx.southwind.net FTP server (Version wu-2.4(1) Fri Apr 30 11:18:15
CDT 1999) ready.
250 CWD command successful.
PWD
257 "/users/p/phoenyx/incoming" is current directory.

Eventually I just used teh automatic handling of attachments. That
seemed to work fine, since I was trying to put my files into the 'files'
subdirectory anyway.

Try using the Phoenyx server... ftp.phoenyx.net.

Web editor file upload/FTP move ?

Tried ftp.phoenyx.net without success.

I tried to ftp my files to the pub/incoming directory. All the files
transferred successfully, but I couldn't see any of them with my FTP
client (a permission thing perhaps?).

Same behaviour as before from the web editor's move function.

Details :

I transferred oasgm55.zip to the incoming directory, then tried the web
editor.

In the source, I tried 'OASGM55.ZIP', 'oasgm55.zip', and 'Oasgm55.zip'
as file names, thinking I might be running into a Unix filename case
problem. As destination, I entered 'files/oasgm55.zip' every time. All
three attempts gave a message that a file was successfully copied, but
no file ever showed up.

Help? For these files, I can use the automatic handling of attachments
(since I'm sending them to the files directory anyhow), but I have some
other files I'd like to put in the 'root' Westwind directory.

Sounds like exactly the same problem I've reported on this list about trying
to upload files for the SylvrStorm game site. FTP works fine, then it looks
like the move to the storm directory works, but the files don't actually get
moved. I'm following this discussion closely, as I'd like to get my site
off Geocities where it is now, but I can't until I have a way to get my
files onto the Phoenyx server.

Kevin.

There is, at the moment, another web editor installed. Doesn't support
FTP, though, and I'm not sure I have all the lists (certainly not the ones
in the last month or so) in there.

So if you've got Netscape-style browser uploads, you can use this one in
the meantime.

Did a quick test of this at work, uploading both a text and binary file
using IE 4.01SP2, and it worked perfectly. Didn't try out the editor
functions yet, but will do so this evening. Thanks!

I updated my GM text archive page with the new web editor, and uploaded
all the archives using it as well, with IE 5.01. All went swimmingly. I
even put in one of those nifty Phoenyx PBeM banner exchange links on the
bottom of the archive page.

Just out of curiosity, is the new web editor a third-party script or did
you roll your own ?
