Phoenyx news

Okay, in the interests of making the Phoenyx a slightly more coherent
whole, I'm thinking of sending out a monthly (or quarterly, maybe)
faq/newsletter critter. There are a lot of members of lists who don't
have any idea that the "phoenyx.net" at the end of the listname means
anything more than "the ISP where the GM got a list from" and I like to
keep people aware that we are, in theory, a community.

Probably the way this would go out would be by list, in alphabetical
order, with duplicates removed... that is, it would appear to come from
the list, but wouldn't end up in the digests/archives/etc, and if someone
was on the 7thorder list and the abqdark list, they'd get left out of
abqdark because they'd already seen it. Replies would be set off-list, of
course, although I'm not sure where... majordomo-owner, most likely.

Here's what I've got right now. Typos in the game descriptions are
probably present in the master file, since I just did a cut-and-paste
there.

Thoughts? Additions? Protests?

Phoenyx.net News

* Archives - The Phoenyx' on-web archives now extend back to July, 1999 or
so. We're still converting the older files, but when we're done, we'll
have nearly every group back to its inception (or its move to the Phoenyx,
in some cases) - as far back as 1994, in some cases. To review a group's
archives, head for its home page, and follow the "Web Read" link on its
navbar. If you can't remember where the home page is, visit
http://www.phoenyx.net/pbemlist.html (for game groups) or
http://www.phoenyx.net/rolelist.html (for discussion groups).

* Banner Exchange - The Phoenyx PBeM Banner Exchange is open to all
non-commercial play-by-mail games, whether run on the Phoenyx or
elsewhere. It's a pure exchange, with no commercial ad space sold, no
heinous corporate tracking going on behind the scenes, and no annoying
animations. To join, visit http://www.phoenyx.net/bp/ and give us a
pointer to your page and graphic.

* Openings - One of our most popular features, jumping to the second most
popular Phoenyx page after only a month online, the Phoenyx PBeM Openings
List is a compilation of current openings in free play-by-email (and
occasionally play-by-IRC, -ICQ, or -web) roleplaying games. These games
are usually outside the Phoenyx, and we don't guarantee their quality,
only that at some point not more than a week earlier the gamemaster was
interested in running a game. The Openings list is available online from
http://www.phoenyx.net/openings/ or delivered to your mailbox fresh every
Thursday (more frequently as volume increases) after you mail a request to
openings-on@phoenyx.net. GM's wanting to announce openings in their games
can do so from the Openings page as well.

* New Games - The Phoenyx has added a number of new games in recent
months, and has several more queued up to join us soon.

+ The Post Conlegium PBeM FRPG was conceived and created because of the
DM's frustration at finding an open slot in an existing game. Since
January '93, it has soldiered on through periods of inactivity and several
format changes, while retaining the majority of the original players.
After a long absence, it has returned to the net and it has no intentions
of leaving again! It is an AD&D based campaign set on the world of Kyrie,
which mirrors our world in many ways (and for reasons only the DM knows!).
A prime example of this mirroring is the religious system, which is
Christian-like. However, here your actions and intentions can be telling.
Sometimes you don't have to wait for the afterlife for your evil ways to
catch up with you. The game focuses around a small group of adventurers
recently graduated from the Conlegium at Astmoor, who now make their way
to the fortress of Templeshirre to seek their first employment. However,
what seemed a simple journey, has become a dangerous trek and the party
has seen the first inklings that something dark is just beyond the horizon
threatening all of Aeropa.

+ Annulus - Of Two Worlds. Suddenly and without warning, a small group of
normal humans from present day Earth find themselves catapulted into an
alternate reality, the fantasy world known to its inhabitants only as
Annulus. Lost in a world fundamentally different than Earth, yet in some
respects uncannily similar, these "adventurers" try to find a way home ...
This PBeM (Play By e-Mail) role-playing game takes place in two
different worlds simultaneously, a concept that I am trying out with this
newborn campaign. The characters must find their way in both the new and
the old. Although combat will occur, the majority of the story will center
on the party's attempts to discover their places and roles in Annulus and
Earth. Only intelligence, cooperation, and good role-playing will get them
through.

+ Red Snow WFRP - Winter's fallen early on the hills surrounding Tents,
the shanty town that sprung up around the Verholm Mine. The cold's forced
the Mountain Goblin tribes down into the valley, but something's stalking
the snowy slopes, preventing the raiders from reaching the town or
escaping to warn their kin. As supplies run low, it soon becomes clear
that no simple beast roams the hills. What is protecting the town? Who is
the Mute Lady, and why is the Merchant so desperate to have her escorted
away? What is the significance of the Carved Stones at the bottom of Pit
13? Where is the sound of digging coming from? Will spring come in time?

+ Set among the stars, Amidst the Main offers players the grandest
adventure: the creation of history. Players invent whole societies,
determine how they develop and relate to the universe. Using the free
form FUDGEified Interactive History rules we encourage fleshing out
societies and then playing out their unique "personalities" and agendas.
Players then handle the resulting conflict, either through compromise and
adaptation or by being the one to impose his societies vision.
