README! New command: passwd

Okay, nifty new command. When you send email to the majordomo, you can
change your password (or rather, you can have the system assign a new
password). This doesn't have to be approved, so if you forget your
password, you can always get it again.

This should function for both the majordomo's password and the web
editor's passwords (Drall).

Subject: Password change

Someone ("Karen J. Cravens" ) has requested that the password for group
'listowners' be changed.

The new password is 'pxjdrjq'.

To change the password again, send the command:
passwd listowners
in the body of a message to majordomo@phoenyx.net.

Are you going to make it let us assign a password of our choice?

Okay, I made it work that way already (darn, I'm fast).

To assign a random password:

passwd groupname

To assign a new password of your choice:

approve oldpassword
passwd groupname newpassword

(If you get your old password wrong, it'll fall back to assigning a random
one.)

No matter what it does, it will email the confirmation to the listowners
separately, so you don't have to worry about letting everyone know (if you
have more than one listowner.)

I'm not sure. I'm thinking maybe an unapproved one (as is now) will pick
a random one and mail it, but an approved one (that is, one where you've
given it the old password) will let you set it to something
explicitly. That way, if you forget your password, you aren't completely
up a creek... you can send it the passwd command unapproved (incidentally,
"password" spelled out works, as does shortened versions... I think you
can shorten it all the way up to "p listname" because there's nothing else
that starts with p) and get a new (random) password even if you've
forgotten, then you can use that one to send it an approved command where
you explicitly set your password. Make sense?

The only time you're really, really up a creek with *no* paddle is when
you a) forget your password and b) don't have access to the email for any
of the listowner accounts. But in that case you'd have to email me and
convince me you're really you. (Which wouldn't be hard for *you*, but
some of the other listowners might have a problem...)
