Okay, time for more feedback. I'm thinking of splitting this list, or rather, creating a new list in addition to this one. And maybe changing the name of this one. The new list would be a user-group sort of thing, for anybody who's interested in suggesting/testing new features of the Firehawk software. It'd probably live on the Wirebird side of the fence (and yes, I'm finally putting up a real page on that side, preparatory to actually selling the service). This list would stay around more for the gamemaster than listowner functions, although there would be an announcement section where new features would go once they're tested and have help files written for them. The only thing keeping me from just doing it is that certain Phoenyx features are not part of Firehawk. Firehawk is the critter that runs the mailing lists, list server, and web-based settings editors; that runs the (still-in-alpha-test) news server; that (via MHonArc) echos groups on the web; that (via pbemtools) keeps track of who's a player and what their character is; that (via Drall) lets you edit the web/file areas, and that (via pircd) runs the IRC server. Firehawk is *not* the banner exchange, or... well, that's about all it's not, now that I list it out like that. Technically, the navbar is only required on Phoenyx sites, although it is be available (in different configurations) for other Firehawk-served domains. And technically pbemtools is strictly a Phoenyx extension, but since it'll require some serious ease-of-use testing, it probably qualifies better for the user-group list. (If there's any interest at all... did anyone go out to Alan's site at http://www.pennmush.org/~alansz/mage/ch1.html and see what pbemtools does? That stuff is all auto-generated... very nice if you run multiple plotlines/parties. It still does a prettier job of archiving only the straight game timeline than a plain archive-of-all-emails does, even if your game is strictly mono-thread.) That would, I think, do a better job of separating the power-user goodies from the need-to-know things for running a game. And maybe encourage a little more community-building stuff... feel free to use listowners+chat to introduce yourselves and share trivial personal details (like van headgasket information) with the group. -- Karen J. If there was something like a 'Listowners Lite' list which covered the more essential features of the list explained in the kind of language that a fairly slow 12 year old would understand, then that would be perfect to me. Then those that actually understand all this business can have their own list and I won't end up feeling like a total moron every time I get a message to this list that I can't even begin to comprehend! I would be in favor of splitting the list so long as gamemasters are only required to be subscribed to one list. -- Carl D Cravens (raven@phoenyx.net) Hey! I think this is a good idea. A lot of the people who run games, don't
really want to be involved in the tech head side of the house. It would let
some good discussion develop around the Firehawk software without
overwhelming the people who are not interested in it.

I think its important to retain this kind of list. And for the people who
only want to run the games, having the features show up tested and
documented would be a real boon. I suspect that some people find the
technical detail a little overwhelming at times. (Even though I'm
interested in the tech side, I have on occasion.)

I'd probably subscribe to both anyway - though I'd be mostly a lurker on the technical list. ---- Jeff Johnson jsjohnso@islandnet.com "I'm taking off the kid gloves, and putting on the very mad gloves!" - The Tick -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners
